Holy crap! Way too early for all that white stuff. Just watching CKVR and we will likely get some tonight but won't stick around. No salt been put down so will not call it a vetting season yet although the roof is up and heater working just fine.
At least the kids won't let the snow stop them tonight.

My goal when I retire is to never see snow in person again, before the first flakes fly I will be off to Florida and won't return here until it's all melted. That would be perfection

Going to a retirement workshop Monday evening, will find out more about the latest OHIP rules about length of stay outsidevthe province. We had a private benefits insurer talk to us last yr and I seem to remember him saying something about having to prove you were in Ontario once every 60 days. If I remembered correctly we'd just fly into Buffalo, bus over to Niagara Falls turn around on next bus back to airport. As long as the passports are stamped the length of time didn't matter for us snowbirds. Alked with a few ppl who headed to Costa Rica last yr and they really enjoyed it, rent, food, maid service was less than $2k per month and their dental and medical was as good as here and cheaper. 31 work weeks but I'm not counting.

I thought the rules were that snowbirds only had to come back to Canada once every 90 days? When did they change that? Not that big of a deal I guess, I'm sure we'd pop back up here for a weekend or two, especially if we have grandkids by then

It's 180 days actually to main your OHIP benefits.
Your specific travel insurance provider may have limitations on the number one days. 30,60, 90 are the most common.
The day maximum depends on if its a per trip limit or a limit per year. Big difference. That's just one thing to be aware of. Definition of medical stability and pre existing medical conditions are HUGE issues. We've all read about that in the paper the last few years. People having issues and an insurer not paying out.
I sell insurance including out of country medical. If I can help out let me know.

(Stopped snowing....35cm. Ground isn't frozen yet and its slowly melting out of the trees. I think it's going to be a long winter )

Just looking at the booklet provided by Retired Teachers of Ontario and Johnson Ins. from last spring's session. Wish I could find my notepad but I see 62 days, 90 days and 180 day. For extended health it is based off of OHIP $ coverage which is not a lot of $ given the costs of US especially healthcare. I remember the OTIP, OHIP and RTO ppl going over horror stories of retirees thinking that they were covered by both OHIP and their ext health plan only to find that they didn't have proof of Ont residency within the new rules. They moved down in December with plans on coming back in Apr. OHIP denied $ which licked in denying ext health ins paying.
BUT I will ask on Monday for clarification and this time keep better notes and store in a place where I actually remember where I put them.
if they say 90 days , we'd still come back within 60 for a quick stopover just to be safe.
I will ask for advice from you as well Mike, if that's ok.
