My nephew works for the inbound SiriusXM call center.
Best deal according to him is the $15.99 per month plus fees deal. no saving if you pay annual in advance. Prepay two or three years you get a few months "free"
I had a email deal sent to me the other day. Free portable radio if you subscribe at $9.99 plus fees and taxes per month. It expired mar 31. Not available online though.
I re-upped in January at the 15.99 plus fees deal.
The lifetime deal is back, it's $559 or something like that. Catch is you can only transfer it to another vehicle three times. Which sucks if you frequently change cars. I didn't ask about then lifetime deal on a portable radio, I assume it's available, but never asked specifically.

Last year I signed up for annual subscription. Came to ~$90 tax in. My subscription ends may 1/2015.
I received notification for auto renewal and I dialed them this week as they wanted to charge $170/year. I asked to be removed from auto renewal and why are they almost doubling their rates.
They tried 3 times to get be to sign for the upcoming year. Lowest offer was $119.xx tax in for the year. Still said no. For a car that's driven 6-7 months of the year on weekends, not worth it.
You should suggest to your nephew that they should make a summer vehicle package and that only works on Friday - Monday.

I have a 10-12 year old portable radio that I pay 9.99/month on. I've been doing this for 3-4 years now. I use it in the Vette or in the travel trailer or in the boat on holidays. It slides into a "boombox" portable type radio. I suspend the service November 1 to May 1. Use it almost everywhere we go in the summer months.
Oh yeah, BTW, he doesn't even get an employee discount rate for his personal radio. That's kind of odd I thought.

Portable radio can be used in the car or home obviously. Watch which portable you get though. Some hook up easier to a car than others. My oldie radio '03, is the only one that used a strong fm modulation to carry the signal. Range is about 100'. Newer ones only carry a few feet.
I like the "built in" for the car and truck. No wires to run for the anntenna, power and link to the sterio input.

I don't think so.

You still need a subscription. The av receiver would just control the "output" from the portable sat radio. Chanel selection, genre, volume and power etc.
Maybe a audiophile will chime in with a better answer.

Thanks for the reply Dodosmike, I understand that you need a subscription, I guess my question ultimately is, can a one year subscription be had for around $100.00 all in, or am I wasting my time calling in as I don't want to go through 3-4 calls and couple people later.

Music royalty fee is $3.00 or so a month.
Buy the plan online, you just need the Id number off the radio. Easy.
Online says 15.99 plus taxes and fees per month.
Try the link in KOZ's link, ignore the zip code, put in the radio ID and try it, might work.

I renewed last Fall for the same price someone mentioned earlier - about $119/yr.
I drive mine throughout the year so this makes sense for me - rather than just having for a shorter term over the summer.
But $119 was a bit higher than I got the year before - so I'm interested to know if anyone in Ontario is on a cheaper 1 year contract rate.
