But that's the US Costco site, our Costco gas stations have a different supplier and I'm pretty sure they still don't have ethanol. As mentioned, if it has it, they must list it on the pumps and as recently as a couple of weeks ago I didn't see it listed on their pumps.

I filled up my wife's car at CT yesterday and the pumps there definitely said ethanol for only regular and midgrade. So even if Costco has made a very recent change to ethanol premium, CT is still another alternative.

Costco buys fuel from major refineries and distributors in each area. All Kirkland Signature Gasoline is fully guaranteed

Started here.

http://www.costco.ca/gasoline.html

Then here.
http://www.costco.ca/kirkland-signature-gasoline.html or http://www.costco.com/kirkland-signature-gasoline.html. Your choice.

Then here.
http://www.toptiergas.com/retailers.html

Then here.
http://www.toptiergas.com/deposit_control.html

And luckily, there are always other choices.

Not sure how the pricing system works but here in Beamsville the price of gas goes down 3 cents a litre every day at 1:30 pm at the Pioneer station. The Pioneer station on 4th Avenue in St. Catharines (off of the 406 South) is always 10 to 12 cents a litre cheaper. When we go to St. Kitts to run errands or shop we always take the car with the least amount of fuel. Even at the lower prices, there doesn't seem to be a crowd or line up. Niagara Falls seems to be the cheapest in the area, perhaps due to it's proximity to the border (?).I usually check www.gasbuddy.com for local pricing before we set out for local prices.Sometimes it may not seem to be a big saving, but with 3 vehicles over 12 months,it does add up quickly .

Does anybody remember the prices for the different grades were only a 2 cent spread?? so for example using 1.00, then 1.02, and 1.04 but quietly they've become 17 cent spread !! Bunch of crooked crap going on here.

By the way, for those that are not clear on octane boost, when it says it 'adds 3 pts', this does not mean 87 becomes 90, these means 87 becomes 87.3. Be careful

Good choice. I bought my wife a ATS I4 turbo AWD and she loves it.

All gasoline refineries custom blend gas for all their major customers (ethanol %, detergents, etc.). Just because you saw the truck leaving the Shell refinery and going to Costco doesn't mean they have the same recipe gas as Shell retailers. I even suspect that the Shell marketing and legal departments wouldn't even allow non-Shell retailers to buy their exact Shell gas recipe.

I know the formula will be different, and I wasn't implying that CT and Costco use the identical formula as Shell, however I highly doubt that they would be adding ethanol to the mix once they get to the station, that would be added beforehand. It's basically just the detergents they would be adding at that point.

Most definitely! It bothers me that when I go to the US I often see premium fuel selling for just 20 cents PER GALLON more than regular, which works out to just over 5 cents per liter! So are Canadian gas stations trying to tell us that it costs them 4 times as much to make premium fuel compare to their US counterparts? It's pure gouging, plain and simple! And at least when you buy gas in the US, most stations will show the price of premium on the large signs out front, but in Canada we have to pull up to the pump in order to see how bad we're going to be gouged on premium.

Nothing gets added once it leaves the distribution centre (last part of the refinery). Once it's in the truck, nothing gets changed. The only thing that happens at stations is proportionally mixing hi-grade with low-grade to get mid-grade(s). Ethanol and detergents are added per the recipe/order prior to the truck leaving the distribution centre (in your example, by Shell before it goes in the Seaboard truck that delivers to Costco).

Hey Jack,

I have a 2010 Acura TL as my daily driver and I use Costco Premium Gas. Up here in Barrie the gas was 0.98/L for regular and 1.10/L premium. My wife's 2013 MDX has run on this gas from new with excellent results.

I get about 10% better gas mileage on Premium, which you should factor in on your annual calculations.

Tim.
