Default Buddy Baker

One of my all time favorites, Buddy Baker, is in the battle of his life now. He has been diagnosed with a large tumor on his lung, and doctors say prognosis is not good. At 79, he was still doing his radio show until recently. The man was an awesome driver when the good ole boys where racing. Always a good interview also.

Those were the good old days of racing. Sad to hear about the cancer.

Richard Petty in the 43 Plymouth was my favorite in those days.

Bobby Isaac
Buddy Baker
Ricky Rudd
Junior Johnson
LeeRoy Yarborough
Bobby Allison

Getting harder and harder to remember the names from those times.

Met Buddy Baker a few times when I worked for NSSN. He was a very competitive driver but more than that he is a quality guy. One can only hope the best for him. Tough guy and hope he does not give up.

Thoughts with you Buddy Baker.

He made an announcement on NASCAR radio on Wednesday night.
Spoke about how lucky and blessed his life has been.
He said he has been in allot of pain since last fall, and does not have much time left.

Very Sad, great racer, great broadcaster, greet story-teller and a real decent man.

Hopefully his time left on this earth Isn't to rough.

Al, Mark, Stan just read that Buddy Baker has passed away.

Sad news indeed.

Rest in Peace Buddy Baker, truly one of the great one.

I agree. That certainly was a great time in NASCAR. Back when the vehicles really were a variety of stock cars, not the homogenized, pure-racing cars they use these days!

"The King" was my favourite too. I used to do paintings and sketches of all the cars, and tracks. Even built AF/X HO race tracks on plywood in my dad's garage. The drivers were real characters and it gave it their all every weekend. Smoke, spit, blood and bones. True grit.

RIP Buddy.

Buddy is a real loss.

You missed a few really great drivers in there, My personal favorite David Pearson driving the Cotton Owens Dodge Charger (I still have a model of it) Curtis Turner especially with the Smokey Yunick 7/8 scale Chevelle, Fred Lorenzen, Ned Jarrett and the Yarboro(u)s.

Hard to watch NASCAR today compared to those times.
