Default RIP - Joe Smiley 5x5 Canal Rat

Well QUAD C old gang we just lost a saint : Joe Smiley passed away this past Saturday,

I didn't realize how much older Joe was than most of us old timers - he was in his 85th year.

He was still Solo 1 racing just a few years back !
I figured Joe would just keep rolling along (forever)

Any of you Corvette's of Southern Ontario (I'm not sure of the current permutation) folks could you please pass along to Dennis and Vicky Carter thanks.

I won't get into singing Joe's praises - if you know the name you know the man - he will be missed but never forgotten

Obituary and funeral details can be accessed through P. X. Dermody Funeral Home , Hamilton

I knew Joe through our sister club Corvettes of Hamilton out of Ohio. His and our club meet once per year (alternating between the USA and Canada). I saw him this spring at our last get together in Hamilton, Ontario. He was a good man.

Wow what a small world !

We saw them both last evening.

If I get a chance to speak with them at the funeral tomorrow I'll pass along your condolences.

Hi Dennis,

Thank you for the acknowledgement - yes Joe was one of the finest car people we knew,

I think Anne might have said that someone from your club had been at the visitation ?

I have had the pleasure of talking with and competing against Joe in Solo 1, SoloSprint and Time-Attack. Joe was still competing in Time-Attack with the Canal Rat up until very recently. He also was our chief scrutineer for years as well as an active participant in the steering committee for the series, no matter what the name of the series was.

My condolences to Anne and the rest of the family.
