Z06 prices going up! WTH?
Damn, I've been looking to buy a c6-Z06 for a while now and the most frustrating part is that the prices have been going up lately.
A close friend of mine bought a 2006 Z06 4years ago, 30,000km, for 42,000$. Sold it two years later for 38,000$. Now same car was announced at 46,000$ this spring.
Impossible right now to get a no acccident Z06, lowish miles (30,000km) in the low 40k$.
What's causing this?
-Is it the weak can$ that makes shopping across the border irrelevant making the sellers ask for more?
-The new higher price on the C7-Z06? Brings the older cars value up.
-The new Z06 being merely faster than the C6-Z06 and the n/a engine making it more desirable?
Anyhow, made a couple offers lately and no sellers were interested in selling low 40k$. It's not that I don't have the money to pay high 40k$, it's just that I can't pay more today for a Z06 than my friend paid 4 years ago. On the other hand, very few Z06 seem to exchange hands at the current prices (been following the market for months now). So people might base their price on the US$ doesn't mean people will agree to pay that. Current Black Book value for 2006 Z06 is from 33k$(fair) to 37k$(mint).
Anyhow, only 6 weeks of summer left, if prices don't come down now, I might have time to save enough during the cold months to make an offer on a Zr1 next spring.

everything is on the up and up... cdn $ is down right now and americans are snatching up "deal" cars from Canada.
I've had a random guy on the street doing some contract work from the states here ask me about my car on the street and inquire on our pricing. He then asked if I was thinking of selling to which I said no since I just got it. On looking it up later I found base and early z51 cars are now running 2-3k more in $ than last year when I was looking.

Don't know what year car you are looking for but newer model year Z's are going to cost more. Also how they are optioned out will dictate how much they will sell for used (not just mileage and condition).
My fully loaded 09 Z for example IS NOT going to go for $40k and change. If you are expecting that it ain't gonna happen not in the near future.

You can find 06-07 Z06's for $38-$42. Buddy just bought a 07 with 35 km, Canadian car, bone stock for $39k in Oshawa from a private seller. I passed on a 09 with 5200 km for $45k private seller.
Few weeks ago I saw a 08 black on black with 30km and buddy was asking 41k or best offer. Just because you have the funds to purchase a Z06, doesn't mean you have to pay ALOT for one. If people are selling 90% of the time they NEED to sell for certain reasons. If someone if asking $45k for a 06z06 with 50,000km on the car, bring a cheque with you for $38-$40k. Money talks. People can ask whatever they want for a vehicle but real world numbers is the truth.

A car is only worth what people are willing to pay.........

I'm just gonna wait for the market to get real. No 2006 Z06 are selling right now in the high 40k$.

i know what u mean , its all Corvettes i think , i remember back in 2011 i was seriously considering buying a 2006 C6 vette with 44K and Z06 suspension upgrades off someone from this forum priced at around $33K
forward 4 years into the future and a 2006 Corvette with those km's is going for also the same price WTF ??? right
and C7 corvette prices let's not even go there
cheapest vettes are selling around low $68-70K , u would figure by now u would be able to find a base c7 for low's $50K
even C5 are holding their price over the years , high teens to low 20's

There is one in the Trader right now for $59,999 (and it isn't a stripped 1LT model and has only 14k on it too) and I did see one in there for $55k a few months ago, but generally you are right, they haven't been showing up for much less than $70k. The base price was 53k in 2014, so they've been holding the line or appreciating in value! I'm dying to get one but I'm a long ways away as I need them to get into the low 40s and that's at least two years away by the looks of it

Funny you get them cheaper than at Auction.

The point about the Civic makes no sense. I definitely have the money to pay 50k$ my point is it's not worth that. People are asking way too much for these cars at the moment. The new C7-Z06 retails for 91k$ brand new, 0mile and full warranty, yet some people think that a 9 year old 30,000km out of warranty C6-Z06 is worth 50k$, no way.
I'd rather save just a bit more and get a 75k$ 2009-10 Zr1 than paying 50k$ for a 2006 Z06. That's where I'm at right now.

Though I agree that bringing less money might not be the best idea as certainly someone could very well say no to a lower amount face to face.

It's on another corvette forum (ccf), maybe on kijiji but can't find it...

If you're willing to pay $x for a vehicle, there's no point in wasting a seller's time by showing up, seeing the car, then showing them a cheque for 15% less than what the car is listed for. Just look at something else to begin with.

I'm not referring to you... I'm talking about the people on Kijiji who are low balling sellers to buy something that is out of reach. Doing it in person is even worse because it's a waste of time.

In fact I don't even bother making offers to 50k$ 06-07 Z06 sellers. When someone advertise their at that price it's clear they are not gonna accept 40k$. The things is, all of these cars have been for sale for 2 to 3 months and more. These guys are not really looking to buy. They just put their car up for sale thinking if it sells then good, if it doesn't no harm done. Generally they never heard of the drop valve issue with the LS7 and have a LZ1 model. I could write a book on this...
Motivated sellers start their car in the 38-42k$ range and no history cars in that range sell rather quickly (unless they're yellow).
