Default Fob issue

Did a search don t see anything i like, last week car wouldn t start on HDR, put in the slot in glove box, actually Mike did, car started, worked all week, then today, doesn t work, use my other fob, doesn t work, go through the trunk, put either fob in the slot, boom, Bob s your uncle, went to Gm dealer get a battery, nuttin, he checks my old battery on both fobs, both good, has a tester to test fobs, shows nothing, no feed or connection, but yet in the slot is ok, probably chip in key that makes it work in the slot. My question is, what is the next step to try and solve this ? i have to hit the stop button twice to get the engine to shut down and door unlocked, don t want to get really stranded somewhere. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Al

Al

Get the battery from the dealer for your FOB. That fixed my issues with them.

They are about 6 bucks.

Had the same problem early this year. As stated above new batteries should solve the problem.

Do a search for Fob re-learning, the "long" method. That's all I can think of.

bin there, dun that Mike. most threads say dealer has to long method, and even if it did work, it wipes out any fobs, so don t want to do that and get a tow. did the short thingy, to no avail. will keeping trying simple solutions, may have to take in Thanks for the input tho.

You know where to find me. BTW - zero fob issues while I owned it.

Did you try unhooking your dashcam and your cell charger?

How old is the car battery?

Al. When I was at WN to check on mine, they tested both my fobs with my new duracell batteries and with the test batteries they had in a bag and both failed that test.

They put new batteries in right out of the package and they worked in the tester.

Also, Mike is right. Make sure to unplug or remove any devices you have in the car that are wireless, like cell phones, dashcam's, gps, etc when testing. Some of those devices interfere with the fobs. My GoPro 3's did interfere when I had the wifi enabled on them.

But short of trying new or other fob's, there isn't much more you can check. Worst case is you get new fob's and have to reprogram them.

Also, it's a bit of a pain, especially with that young of a car bettery, but you might want to at least test it out. CanTire and PartSource will test for free if you bring them the battery.
