looking for recommendations on a floor jack
Preferably aluminum, low profile. Broke my Can Tire Michelin 1 1/2 ton today swapping out the tires on my Sierra.
Any suggestions?

Mike no suggestions but what happened to your Michelin jack? I have one of those, is there something I should be checking?
Good luck in your search. CTC did have a low profile jack on sale a week or so ago.

Probably not much help Mike, but I still have my old Sears Motorcraft jack (no, it's not a Low Profile Jack) but works flawlessly to change over winter wheels twice yearly on my Kia and the Pinkymobile.
I'd buy another if they make a low Profile version.
Waiting for the peanut Gallery comments to chime in...

You used a 1 1/2 ton on a Sierra?
I bought the 2 ton version and no problems lifting the entire front end on my Avalanche all at once.

Thanks Al, I do have a small back up jack plus some bottle and scissor jacks.
I've scoured the web, most of the good race type, low profile, aluminum jacks are very pricey. I can get one from Amazon, but tomorrow I'm going to a NAPA and see what I can get there.
I want to stay away from low end units, such as Princess Auto, TSC, CTC etc etc.

So I ended up with the 2 ton NAPA steel model for $235 on sale.
Awesome build quality, many positive reviews, 2 yr over the counter warranty. This should be a very good jack.
The only downside I can see right now is the weight, this thing is friggen heavy.

Heavy maybe but if the weight is in the critical spots then that is alright. Most of the time it is just rolled in any case. Buy some new Toronto Maple Leaf pucks and get it down even lower.
Nice looking jack and I would say the price is pretty good.

I've read many stories of those small aluminum jacks breaking. It looks like your handle broke, right? How did that cause the jack to drop?
That's a nice jack. I have a jack similar to that "BIG RED" one mentioned. Sure, it's steel and heavier but it's not as likely to drop one of my vehicles. Same with your new jack and your vehicles. I would have suggested to forget the aluminum and get a steel jack in the 3-ton capacity range because they're just that much stronger and stable. Same as I only trust the bigger 6-ton or 12-ton axle stands.
But then, there's this guy that's on sale and would work nice for a Corvette or other low profile car.
