The previous owner installed 3M on my '06 in '08. It has held up great up to this point. I live in the north and get a lot of rocks. Paint is flawless underneath the 3M as far as I can tell. I would absolutely install this product on future vehicles.
It is installed on the entire front end and half way up the hood to about the middle of the fender well, the mirrors, and the rockers. They missed the rear fender where it bulges out for the brake ducts(Z06) and it is showing significant pitting after 65k.

I had my ZR1 full hood and front end done when I purchased it and before I drove it, completely recommend it for protection !
However it wasn't done locally, but places that wrap the cars are a good place to look

I has a 2005 C6 that I put the protectivefilm on the front end myself, including the headlights and fog lights. The front bumper, half the hood and half the fenders were covered. It worked really really well. After approximately 280,000 kms of year-round driving, the film was looking a little beat but it did it job in protecting the paint from rather nasty hits (that were in the film but had not got through to the paint). I ordered the kit from a company in the US.
When looking for an installer, one of the questions to ask is if they cut the film on the car. If they say "yes" run! This will leave cut lines in the paint when and if the film is removed.
Cutting on the car is not necessary if a pre-cut pieces are used and a good installer will have their own plotters/cutters.

+1. A good shop that does a lot of film work will have their own film cutting machine.
