Costs for importing car into US from Canada?
I've heard this discussed before, but I don't know if it was answered firmly and if there's been changes.
Do any of our Canadian members know for sure exactly what the costs are for importing a car from a dealer in Canada to the US? Is there a difference if I have it picked up by an individual with a trailer as opposed to a carrier service?
Customs, fees, etc?

Burning Brakes
It's more than just cost, there is a whole compatibility issue that has to be taken into consideration. A friend of mine has to bring his car back to Canada because the emergency brake symbol isn't the same in the US as it is in Canada. Stupid issues, but there where more as well including the whole imperial and metric displays. Do your homework.

Homework is what I'm doing. I was told there weren't US customs issues because the assumption was the car was made in the US, but I'm looking at a Pantera -US company/Italian made?

AFAIK there should be no taxes, fees, or duties from the Canadian government if you are buying from an individual,if you are buying from a dealer you will pay the going PST/GST rate depending on the province.Give these guys a call, they can transport the car and likely handle the importation for you.

Cars over 25 years are basically exempt from US import requirements.
(in the off chance that the build date was between now and year end store it up here until Jan 2017. That is your remote worst case.)

I believe Panteras were last made in 1991. Assuming that is right; you are free and clear. No modifications required and no documentation other than title.

So to be clear you have no need to modify the car or provide documentation regarding recalls or vehicle conformance. You still pay tax as you would for any vehicle purchase.
(if you are in California I do not know what they require in terms of emissions.)
