Bugs/tar on paint....what to do?
I am driving my Vette daily now and when I clean it it's lately not the usual soap, rinse and wipe (with the occaisional wax). I'm getting a lot more bugs and tar on the paint...especially the nose of the car and wanted to know the safest and most effective way to get this stuff off without damaging the finish.
Thanks

If it's fresh bug and or tar and the weather is warm I use a very wet cotten towel. Doesn't work quite as well when cold. The water tends to lift the residue off the surface. If the bugs are very heavy then I will spray the car off to let even more water soften and lift the bug. Down side is the cold water from the hose will harden the tar and make it harder. I do frequently wax the nose to make this process easier. I try to avoid any chemical bug or tar remover, but sometimes a little gas is needed to remove the tar. Must remember this will also remove the wax. Now next month is "love bug " season along the gulf coast and last year it stretched as far as our local which is especially bad on vehicles as that little critter secretes a fluid that will eat right through the paint if not removed quickly. Hope that helps

If the bugs are fresh, you can use a good detailer spray to get them off. If old, spray with distilled water and let soak until they will come off easily with the detailer.
For tar, I use WD40 to take off the tar, then use detailer spray.

After a couple of coats of Zaino, I found that the bugs come off pretty easily with soap, water and a little scrubbing. I try to get them off at the end of each day. It only takes a few minutes to clean off the bugs and to finish up with a little detail spray.

Use a detailer that should do the trick on most. If not I use WD-40
However that will remove your wax so you will need to rewax after

Keeping your car completely and consistently protected will help with bugs and tar. On the bottom side of the car, I sometimes use a diluted all-purpose cleaner to presoak extra dirty areas.

Aerospace 303 Cleaner for bugs and tar.
Stoner's Tarminator works nicely on tar.
In the past I have successfully used Turtle Wax bug and tar remover ( because it was available at my local shop when i needed it)
WD40 or turpentine will remove the tar, but I always washed and rewaxed afterwards when I used them. That's what led me to try something different.

look to QD's noted for cleaning purposes. No need for added gloss and protection as it may streak. Mother's Showtime comes to mind quickly.

I agree with the above, but find that on the rare occasions that I need to scrub off the bugs, I use a sponge or wash mit covered with a woman's old nylon stocking and plenty of soapy water. This won't scratch the paint but provides enough friction to take off the critters.
