Default Remove tar spots from stainless exhaust

I've been neglecting my car for a while and am now trying to clean it up. I have a magnaflow exhaust, and it has thousands of road tar specks on it. What is the best way to get rid of 'em? SS polish, Bug&Tar remover (is that safe for SS?) or something else?

I would soak them in some bug and tar remover for a little while, wash them thoroughly, and lightly polish as necessary.

Get some 0000 steel wool and some metal polish like Mothers Billet and it will bring it up like chrome. Works great on aluminum suspension parts too.

Steel Wool, Tarminator or claying should take care of your problem.

Look for some stuff called "Goof Off" which can be usually found at home depot, Lowes, etc in the paint dept. Might also try a little straight Naptha or Stoddard Solvent.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I just got back from work and stopped by a couple of stores on the way home. I got the Bug&Tar remover, the GooGone, metal polish and steel wool. I'll give them each a try tomorrow and see how they work.

I have a set of Magnaflows and I had to clean road tar off too. I would hold off on the steel wool unless you want to spend a lot of time removing the scratches.

I used carberator cleaner to remove the tar.

Awww, man ....
please don't get near that sweet exhaust system with steel wool -- you'll NEVER get the scratches out.

lots of other good suggestions above. Tar just is NOT difficult to remove. For me, it's just Mother's Mag/Aluminum polish on a terry towel - done in 2 minutes.
