Default Faded Fiberglass

Hey Guys, I have a 96" Monterey Boat with some faded gel coat. I've started by washing and degreasing the hull, where would you go next? The portion of the hull I am concerned with is chalkey and faded. Would you begin with a rubbing compound or go with a polish? Here are some pics

The one side that is ok:

And the other side which needs some work:

Any ideas on how to get the fading to shine like the other side would be appreciated. Also, if this needs to be moved to Off Topic I apologize ahead of time. Thanks!

My brother also has an ugly boat. Watching and waiting.

I was gonna start with a dawn scrubdown followed by meguires #4 heavy cut with randon orbital and then (i hate to say it) Nu-Finish (thats what my brothers got, he can't see the reasoning for anything better).

There are some mylar stripes on the thing that are faded, weathered and peeling. I was thinking of using a heat gun to remove them before beginning this project.

Input?

Ok, update...I went shopping around today and found a product Nelson's (Local Marine shop) uses, it's called Stay Brite and they have a full line up of stuff specificly for Fiberglass and Gel Coats etc.

1. They told me to start with a Dawn wash down
2. Terry Cloth, rubber gloves, and acetone which will further clean.
3. Stay Brite Rubbing compond with wool orbital pad
4. Repeat until "chalking" is removed and there is some semblance of shine
5. Stay Brite Polish
6. Stay Brite "clear coat"

So far it's comming along pretty well. I will post pics.

Also another tip they gave me, is Penetrol, the paint conditioner, is great for helping restore the shine of the Hull.

Ok here I am with just putting the second coat of Polish on, I have yet to seal it all off. I am very happy with the results. These were taken at dusk, I apologize, but at least you get the jist...also it's Star Brite not Stay Brite
