What car vacuum cleaner works best?
Hi, I am looking for a portable car vacuum cleaner, lightweight, handheld, either battery powered, plug into cigarette lighter or plug into house current to charge. If I go to a car show, I would like to be able to do a quick vacuum, something that picks up particles, dog hair, etc. Please recommend, and where did you buy it.

I have this one from Dewalt and it works pretty good.
They are a little pricey at about $100 + battery and charger, but seems to be pretty heavy duty.

I have a Hoover
It hangs on the garage wall with a 30' hose. It works awesome and costs about $150. If you search on ebay you can find one with free shipping. Its a "Hoover GUV - Garage Utility Vac".

I've been using a Sears Craftsman 20-gallon wet-dry for the past 10-12 years. Works great. About $120.

I purchased the Shark SV736 for $39.95 plus free shipping from Amazon.com. The price seems a little highter now.
The link is:
http://www.amazon.com/SV736-Cordless...2714080&sr=8-1
I fist saw it advertised by a supplier of auto cleaning and wax products for $69.95, don't remember the name (it was one of those 5 year lasting products). It works great with changable heads, one with a power brush that does the carpets.

Yes, you are correct. I have never been impressed with 12 vdc operated vacs myslf, worth getting a high horsepower 115 VAc unit IMO.
Here's a 12 vdc from Metro.....

If you must go battery powered, get one from a tool company like Makita or DeWalt. They use the same batteries that cordless drills and similar tools use and will far out-perform the cheap ones with built-in batteries or the ones that plug into the cigar lighter socket.
Then just charge up a couple of batteries the day before your trip and you're ready to deal with pretty much anything.

the vac-n-blow is the best I have ever used, I take it in the house sometimes to do the furniture and curtains since it does a better job than my dyson animal.

Former Vendor
Metro is one hearty unit, and easily as beautiful. They offer many different units to fit most budgets and needs, and recently brought a smaller portable unit. Of course, Autogeek is an authorized vendor and truly believe in bringing the best of the best to our clients. I used the two slightly bigger units at Detailfest I and II and loved them.

Black and Decker has a good hand vacuum, it's pretty convient. But if you want something more heavy duty then go with the Dewalt like what was also recommended above. That's good for like picking up the big stuff under and between the seats.
Found this review article which compares different car vacuums:

From my experience Makita BCL180W 18-Volt Compact Lithium-Ion Cordless Vacuum is one of the best. It comes at a reasonable price for a car vacuum cleaner and of course could be used for anything else around the house too. Here is a good review so you can see what i mean http://the-best-vacuum-cleaner.com/b...cuum-cleaners/ . There are other options as well so you might want to take a look at those too.
