California duster on a Zaino'd Vette?
I have a California duster which works great at removing dust, but puts a wax film on top of the Zaino finish that I have to wipe off. I know I have read several people stating that they use the duster and have zaino on their car. Is there something that you have to do to get the wax off the duster first. The wax film really looks bad after using it.

When you first purchase a Cali. Duster, remove it from the bag and place it on several sheets of newspaper, and wrap it up in the paper. Leave it in the paper for 2 days, changing the paper if you wish.
This serves to draw out the excess wax that is applied at the factory. Don't wash the duster, it isn't recommended. You will remove the coating, and significantly decrease the effectiveness of the Duster. When it becomes too dirty to use, simply replace with a new one.
The wax film that you are seeing left behind on your finish is really harmless, and can be buffed off with a quick detailer and a towel of your choice. I prefer microfiber, myself. But the newspaper "trick" should help to alleviate the excess wax that is being left on the finish.

I don't get this film or streaking, but I did leave the duster out for several days before using it. I use the duster VERY gently .. I don't even let the full weight of the duster rest on the paint, and I certainly don't 'scrub' with it .. just the lightest of touch dragging the duster over the paint.

Sal Zaino has recommended the California Duster to me. I use it as Jerry described. I use it before Z-6.

I have had a similar problem. I found that when I dusted the car after sitting in the sun, a wax streak appeared.
I did all the recommeded ways to take the excess wax off. It was just the heat of the car that caused it. z-6 will remove it easily.

Thanks for the comments. I'll try the newspaper and see if that helps. I agree that the film is easy to get off. It's just that I like to grab the duster in the morning and spend 30 seconds running over the car before leaving. I don't want to spend an extra 5 minutes wiping the wax of the car afterwards.

Hey guys,
Won't a Duster scratch a black vette?
Won't a Duster scratch a black vette?
Shortly after I got my Z, I noticed a bug crawling on it, so without thinking, I crushed him with a wiping motion with my finger  and was shocked to find that I had put a tiny scratch in the finish. The bug was a little beetle-type thing and its shell was hard enough to scratch the paint. Now I'm careful never to use much pressure when rubbing the paint with anything, no matter how clean or soft it seems to be.

CA Duster works fine for me with no wax film after dusting... I let my duster sit out and hang dry for a couple days before using.

I got one a few weeks back. Had it in newspaper for a few days. Used it on my Z06 and 540 today after 3 coats of zaino on each. The CD worked great.

I've been using my California Duster for about 8 years with no problems. Shake is out real good when using and don't use on a warm or hot surface.

I get these wax streaks as well when I use the cali duster. Like everything else, seems like this problem would be more prevalent on a black car.

The CA Duster always leaves streaks, but if you notice only the dark colored car owners notice it. I notice most of my streaks appear when the duster initially come in contact with the surface. Every morning I take the Vette out I dust it and then hit just a few spots with Z6 and then I am good.
