Default Removing cone marks ( from autocrossing )

Hey guys,

So, I'm new to caring for the Z06, and I was chastised early today for using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on the car to remove cone marks.

My question is ... what can I use to remove them that won't hurt the paint. I know I've seen many great looking Z06s out at national events that look more like show cars than race cars ( that's a compliment ) and they ( or you ) have got to be using something that works.

Would a cleaner wax do the trick? How about Turtle Wax's bug and scratch remover wax?

Any ideas or advice is greatly appreciated.

I'd stay away from Turtle Wax products. Any good paint cleaner or cleaner wax will remove the scuffs from cones....I'd probably use something like XMT360 for this.

Pick up some Zaino All in One and a german foam pad. If they are too bad try ZPC although I suspect the Z-AIO will be fine.

If you have to do the whole car you may want to think about getting a PC but for some cone marks here and there a foam pad by hand will be fine.

looks like I will need to start buying stuff online...lol

Wow... just realized how many levels of Zaino stuff there is...

No wonder some people never take their cars out, they're always adding layers

Detailing clay.....you can most likely get it at your local auto paint store or even use the Meguiars clay that you can buy at Walmart. Some of the lighter marks will just come off when you wash the car. Where ever you use the clay you will have to apply more wax.

Yeah, I just clay'd the car 3 days after I bought it ( 2 weeks ago ), and figured that I could use that as well... I've been using the Meguiars bars and tehy've been working good... just didn't want to break out a new bar just for 2 cone marks

Ok... used some cleaner wax and it came off just fine.

Looks like I've got to get some new cleaning products for this thing

Those cone marks are good for at least a few tenths!

OT but since you're from the PA area and mentioned national events did Mark Daddio ever get a new solo car after selling the EVO? Man he was quick in that car!

Mark was not there this year, or if he was... I didn't see him or hear anything him. That was a blast watching him in the EVO last year...

I have some cone marks too and cant get them out either. They seem like they are deep marks. I tried claying, scrubbing, but nothing works. How about using a PC and a more abrasive polish?

A pc might help. If you can't feel them with your finger nail you should be able to get them out.

Agree> try Menzerna Power Finish (PO203S) - (M) this is a a one-step scratch remover polish that will remove 2500 grit, cut 3.0- gloss 3.5, Slightly more abrasive then PO 106 but produces a burnished finish (for black or dark coloured paint surfaces use as part of a duel level foam pad / polish system PO 85 RD 3.01 Super Intensive Polish)
