Default Do not use Meguiars ScratchX for buffing.

I tried to use this to remove swirl marks from my car but left more swirl marks. I then used 3m scratch and swirl remover and this did the trick. will post pics later.

Were you buffing by hand or machine?

I agree, at first it works but don't use it too much. I have been applying it to where some lil jit keyed my car every week, and it has left swirls around the scratch too!

You need to use foam pads. Micro is abrasive at speeds a buffer runs at.

I disagree, I've been using Scratch-X with my UDM buffer a lot this year and I find it does a fantastic job! It most certainly doesn't create more swirl marks in my experience, and my black paint is normally not very forgiving in that regard either. I have been using the white Lake Country polishing pad, and set the UDM speed to 5 (out of 6). I find that Scratch-X removes just as much if not more imperfections than Meguiar's #80, but it's way easier to buff off, so I can do my entire car in about half the time it used to take me. What I also like is that Scratch-X doesn't leave the finish hazy (aka micromarring) like #80 would tend to do on my black finish. I finish up with NXT 2.0.

In fact, here is a shot of my car from yesterday morning, the paint is 100% original and I've got just under 99,000 miles on my car too so it's no garage queen:

If you use it per the instructions, it does what it's supposed to do.

Oh man... did it leave scratches?
It left swirl marks on my car, but i might have been using the wrong pad as mentioned above. But the 3m swirl remover with a micro foam pad worked pretty good.
Anyways love your rims wanna trade?

Hit the car care section on here. LOTS of great advice. There are a million different types of pads, and the pros over there can steer you towards the right ones.

Hmn, I ran it by random orbital on the orange pad and didn't cause any paint issues. But it wasn't strong enough to fix vette clear coat scratches anyway.

Scratch X is pretty mild stuff and in my opinion does a great job if used according to directions. I would not use it with a Rotory Buffer. It says it can be used with a DA Polisher. I just used it with my DA and a Meguiars soft foam buff pad the other night and did the entire top sections of my car with great results. Followed it with Zaino Z5 and Z2. I did notice that using it by hand with a terry cloth towel left some slight swirling. The DA gave a much better result.

I will say I have seen the 3M products used on other cars and they give excellent results as well. No complaints here.

Vettes finishes are quite hard to correct and never found much to repair it other than true polishes. ScratchX to me is a light hand polish and seems to work on very soft paint IMO. I would highly suggest Menzerna SIP and 106FF (Nano) for the best finish.

Quick Reply: Do not use Meguiars ScratchX for buffing.
