Default Who Uses a California Car Duster ? Are they safe ?

Just wondering who uses one of those California Car Dusters (they are probably marketed under various other names too).

They are those long handled mop looking dusters that have a residue in the mop threads to attract and grab the dust particles (not for washing the car - just for light dusting).

I was just wondering if they are actually safe for your paint finish. They are typically used for light dusting when your car doesn't really need a car washing.

Anyone had any negative experiences with these or have they scratched your finish or maybe even removed the wax you have on your car ??? Ect ? Ect ?

I use it faithfully and I have no complaints.
Here is a pic of the results.

Make sure you follow the instructions breaking it in when new. It seems to work better the older dirtier it gets. I usually let the Vette cool off after driving b-4 using the duster.

I've used one (the same one) for 8 years now. Only for dust of course. It has always done a good job. Always use lightly with no pressure..

I've used one for years. Use it responsibly and you'll not have any problems.

Edit: Just seen the guy above me post. I detail cars for a living, If you use the duster to do just that "dust" and use it while "holding" it above the paint not "dragging" it,you will be fine.

I wouldn't use it on my black car. I have used one on the blue one though. I don't care so much because I can always do a light buffing on it if it gets some scratches.

Funny you used one until someone told you not too. If it were really bad bad bad as you say I wouldn't think you'd need someone to tell you not to use it but that whatever it supposedly did bad to your car would have made you stop.... Did it ever harm your car?

It's designed to very lightly "dust" the car, not rub and clean off dirt...

Bought one when I bought my car about 5 years ago. Been using it exclusively on the Vette ever since. I drive the car once a week and dust it afterward each time.

In the beginning it did leave a few waxy streaks now and then but that characteristic seems to have disappeared years ago.

It does an excellent job. I have no swirls or scratches on my MY paint yet. I do it just before putting a cover on my garage queen so the action of putting the cover on or taking it off doesn't scratch the paint in any way from road dust.

I highly recommend it.

Was going to say ,,what MOST people are calling"scratches" are probably streaks from a new one. I've used one for many years and am quite satisfied. I will be the first to admit,,I am NOT one of those "I wax it every week with Zaino,,and detail spray every time I stop"types. They are fine for what they are intended for,,DUST that settles on it !!

When getting ready to get the Vette out for a ride, etc. I back it out of the VetteCave, use my duster while she warms up a bit, almost every time. No problems here.

Yes my car is BLACK....so maybe depends on color...but you do have to be VERY careful with it, esp brand new...or the wax on it will leave streaks...I should say I as well do have my own detailing business.....again is my opinion...

I've used the California Duster on my cars for a number of years. Never noticed any scratches or swirl marks from using it. Just light pressure is all you need to gather up the dust off the car. The only thing you may see is some of the wax from the duster is occasionally left on the paint's finish - but that comes off with a wipedown using a chamois or something like an Absorber.

i use one on my black c5. I never have any trouble. Just go very lightly, barely touching the paint.

What is the break in for these and can these be used fine for the interior?

Works great, doesn't scratch anything when used as designed. One of the big benefits is to dust off a car before you put a cover on, which will keep the cover from grinding the dust on the clear coat.
