Default Zaino / Clay bar question

I've not clayed my '09 since new. I has (had?) about 8 coats of Zaino on it and looks fine.
When I ran my hand (in plastic bag) over it the other day, it seemed a little rough, so I bought a Mother's clay kit in the local store, washed normally, and clayed it. There was very little grime in the clay bar. The car is really really smooth.

I put 2 more coats of Z2 on it.
I washed it with regular car soap, not Dawn.

How much wax/Zaino do you remove when you clay it?

Clay won't remove all of your Zaino if it is done properly but will definitely remove some of it. Regardless you really should re Zaino after claying.

Claying and polishing should remove it all, but not just claying.
Regardless, you did the right think by applying more Z2.
You should consider a machine polishing next time.

Not sure what you mean.....do you mean a machine polishing compound after clay bar?
I thought the concept of refinishing is to use the least aggressive method possible.

Yes, I am also curious about that comment, unless you are referring to using Z-AIO. In my detailing shop, AIO is the only Zaino product we use with a PC after a car has been clayed and we see "stuff," mainly waterspots and minor scuffs that need to be removed.
To back up the Zaino removal, very little gets removed. Keep in mind you are floating the clay bar on a thin surface of liquid, providing you are using enough lube/soapy water, so it is not hitting the surface enough to remove layers, but is pulling any polish off the car when it pulls the contaminants off.

You are correct about using the least aggressive method possible.
Yes, I mean polishing after claying as clay will do nothing to remove any swirl/scratches type defects.
Using a machine with a polish like ZPC is a very mild approach, and something that I would be willing to bet would be beneficial to most cars.
You can ramp up the aggressiveness from there, but that's a great place to start imo.
I consider ZPC a finishing polish and think it's great stuff.
