Zaino / Clay bar question
I've not clayed my '09 since new. I has (had?) about 8 coats of Zaino on it and looks fine.
When I ran my hand (in plastic bag) over it the other day, it seemed a little rough, so I bought a Mother's clay kit in the local store, washed normally, and clayed it. There was very little grime in the clay bar. The car is really really smooth.
I put 2 more coats of Z2 on it.
I washed it with regular car soap, not Dawn.
How much wax/Zaino do you remove when you clay it?

Clay won't remove all of your Zaino if it is done properly but will definitely remove some of it. Regardless you really should re Zaino after claying.

I thought the concept of refinishing is to use the least aggressive method possible.

To back up the Zaino removal, very little gets removed. Keep in mind you are floating the clay bar on a thin surface of liquid, providing you are using enough lube/soapy water, so it is not hitting the surface enough to remove layers, but is pulling any polish off the car when it pulls the contaminants off.

You are correct about using the least aggressive method possible.
Yes, I mean polishing after claying as clay will do nothing to remove any swirl/scratches type defects.
Using a machine with a polish like ZPC is a very mild approach, and something that I would be willing to bet would be beneficial to most cars.
You can ramp up the aggressiveness from there, but that's a great place to start imo.
I consider ZPC a finishing polish and think it's great stuff.
