Default Dust under the Cover

I have a Noah Block-It car covers on both my 73’ Corvette and ‘03 Mustang, both live on the driveway. They are both covered from November to April, when I remove the covers they look freshly waxed, as I expect them to. I leave the Corvette covered when I’m not driving it. The last two time I uncovered it, I have found a fine dust on the car. I washed the cover, washed and waxed the car and recovered the car. A week later, I pulled off the cover to find the same light brown dust. My driveway is paved, the roads are paved, my other cars are cleaner then the Corvette that lives under the cover. Does anyone have any Idea what that dust could be from?

I too am interested in any replies. I apply my car cover and upon its removal there seems to be more dust (thicker dust) on the hood and rear deck than before I covered the car. My cover is new and has not been washed.

Most covers are breathable and don't guarantee that dust and moisture wont get under the cover. Just make sure any interior material from the cover is not disintegrating. As you offered a cover can be washed, and with two people can be shaken out also.

Understood, it’s not a plastic sheet, but my uncovered cars are not that dirty a weeks time.

I spoke to Covercraft and they said send it back for inspection, it could be degrading. Now the problem is I’m about to start work on a garage, and I really wanted the cars covered during that work, but the cover is of no value if it produces it own dust. So I washed it again, washed the car and lets see what happens next week when I uncover it. If I see the dirt, I will send it back, and post their findings.

I uncovered the car to find the same dust, cover is bad, or is it? So I though I would try to put my Mustang’s cover on the Corvette after I washed the car. It rained the next day, when it stopped I pulled the cover off and found the same dust. Now are both covers degrading? To test the Corvette's cover, I covered the Mustang, so far no dust. So either cover produces dust under the Corvette, but not under the Mustang. WHY????

BTW, this is not a Corvette vs Mustang comparison.

Sounds to me like the top deteriorated after the washing. You weren't experiencing this before the washing.

Richard,

Is it possible that the Corvette body is "static charged" due to either the fiberglass or whatever you used to wax or seal it, and it is pulling the dust off the cover?

I see the dust on both cars now, less on the Mustang, but the cover on the Mustang has gone through more rain cycles after the washing. "static charged" is a good angle, but I bet it’s just the cover that has degraded. I’m going to send it back to Covercraft tomorrow.

I will post their findings.

Is the car covered in the driveway outdoors or is it covered in a garage? Sorry if I missed it, but didn't see if you specified where the cover is being used.

I'd suspect then that it's the location, not the cover.

Takes just a tiny bit of a breeze to blow debris under a cover and because it gets trapped there you'll see more accumulation than you would on an uncovered car.

I really am against covers for outdoor use for this exact reason.

A more snug fitting style of cover may help, but as long as it's used outside you're going to probably see this in one way or another.

They are not universal covers, both are form fitting to the car. The go down past any body lines, around 4” from the ground. Also I see dust on the top and inside the back windows area on the ‘73 Corvette, kind of hard to see it moving up hill under the cover.

I kept the Mustang covered outside for the last 10 years during the winter. The Corvette and cover are new, so I don’t have any experience during the summer.

I received a new cover in the mail, I guess that CoverCraft’s examinations reveled that the cover had degraded. I will wash the car and cover it, and report back in a week if I see any dust. I don’t expect to.

No dust with the new cover. So the cover was degrading, and Covercraft did replace it.

Having a similar problem with my Covercraft Dustop that I purchased new approx 2 months ago from CCA. I'll wash the vehicle, make sure it's fully dry than put it away in the garage and cover it. When I take the cover off after sitting for a few days there's a "film" of brown lint/dust all over the car. Tried calling Covercraft but was on hold for over 15 mins so I left my name and number. As expected, I never got a call back from them. Guess I'll try again
