I think I remember reading years ago that there is some process that you should go through before using a new one ??????????

Sometimes there is additional procedures that work better and are shared by the Forum members ...................

Mine is over 10 years old but I remember something about wrapping it in newspaper. The newspaper sucks up the excess wax.

That sounds familiar. Will see what instructions say. Where do you find newspaper these days ................... ??

The ends have paraffin wax ... it will streak if you fail to allow it to sit on newspaper (or perhaps a brown paper bag) for a couple days before first use.

Instructions advise using the newspaper method to help soak up the paraffin.

I would trust the manufactures directions not some proclaimed internet expert.

I still have and use mine after 15 years, still works great. One of the best all around auto detailing tools ever sold. If there was a Auto Detailing Tools Hall of Fame the California Duster would be a first round candidate.

And yes I recall the instructions said to set it face down on several sheets of newspaper for a few days.

I let mine sit for a week and still got some streaking from the wax the first time I used it. I've had it for years and it still works great. I don't put any pressure on mine when I clean my car, just run it lightly over the paint.
