Clay Bar Question
I'm over here from the Track and AX section with a detailing question - yes, some track guys do like their cars to look good!! Anyway my 04 Z06 has been largely neglected and needs some TLC. I intend to start with a clay bar, but I'm not sure about using the clay bar on my OEM Commemorative Edition stripes (Z16), which are not clear coated. Stripes are vinyl applied on the finish. Can I clay the stripes or just the paint?
Thanks

There are now clay blocks, sponges, and towels available in addition to the original bar. I doubt the stripes need to be clayed, so I might suggest staying away from them as possible unless painted.

My wife used to drive a 2011 Camaro SS with vinyl racing stripes. I clayed the stripes several times and never had any issues.

The Nanoskin Autoscrub Speedy Prep Sponge – Fine Grade is a good choice for a polymerized rubber "clay" alternative.
Be sure to use plenty of diluted Nanoskin Glide Instant Detail Spray Lubricant or Optimum No Rinse as a clay lube.
Check your work with "The Baggie Test" after you have clayed. I've found that sometimes the Nanoskin towel is not 100%.
In that case, you will need to follow the sponge with a FINE clay bar. I like using the non-abrasive Zaino Z-18 ClayBar.
