Default How to properly wash LS2 engine in C6 Corvette

I had a radiator hose explode and coolant has gone everywhere. I would like to wash the engine bay down with soap and water. Are there any precautions I should address prior to washing the engine? Are all the electronic connections water proof/tight? What sort of items need to be covered prior to washing?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Wash it up! You will be OK. The only thing I wouldn't do is hit it with high pressure or a psi washer. Maybe don't douse the alternator. That's about it. Pretty much water tight under the hood.

When I cleaned my engine a while back I just wrapped the alternator in foil. After that I sprayed degreaser, let it sit for a little while and hosed it off.

I hate to offer a different approach, but I am not one to apply lots of water to the engine bay. (perhaps its the old Optispark systems). I find that on a cool engine you can spray with a degreaser, and use damp towels to clean each area. I have used a soft paint brush to scrub areas as needed.

You can use the cans of compressed air when needed to remove sand/dirt that's loose. I also find that you don't need a lot of protectant to coat the items, just remember use a water based product not a silicone product.

I've been washing my engine compartment since 2004 when I bought my 2005. I wrap the alternator, fuses next to cabin filter and six other connections with aluminum foil. Lightly rinse with water only with Mr. Clean Auto Wash using the filter only (they don't make it anymore, so I buy the 10 washes for around $25 on eBay). Blow dry with a 110 mph leaf blower.

Then I wipe down every surface that I can get at with Zaino. Even after a long drive, just a quick dusting is all the engine bay needs to look perfect again. 16 first place trophies to prove it!

I cover the alternator and spray down the engine with P21S Total Auto Wash. Then rinse with water and dry it with a blower.
