There are many water based dressings for the weatherstripping. Over time weatherstripping will dry out, so protecting is indeed good maintenance. Soap, environment and other variables can harm them over time. If you like the product in question, then use it.

If you want some other recommendations, you will find that 303, Wurths, and Einszett all offer this type of product in a cool shoe polish type applicator.
