Default 100% Cotton Towels....

Where does everyone buy the 100% cotton towels used to dry your cars? Are any particular brands better than others?

Cannon is generally considered very high. I believe it is Field Crest is also considered excellent. Check the Connon Charisma/Fieldcrest website :yesnod:

I actually use 100% cotten t-shirts (my old t-shirts). I find that towels tend to collect material in them that can scratch the paint.

There is a Field Crest factory store near my home.
The Vert does not mind that I use factory seconds to dry it's skin. :)

I would have to agree with most folks here, I use Fieldcrest. One thing I have found is that the cheaper the towel the less absorbant they seem to be......nothing but streaks. When a towel fails to dry the vette properly I hand it down to my fiance. She is now making me buy specific colors just in case I don't like how it drys the vette. I really need some therapy or something :)

Here is part of what I got from another web site on polishing towels. Griot's Garage is a good source for 100% cotton towels and polishing cloths, including the end stitching.

Look for white (to prevent dye transfer to your vehicle’s finish) terrycloth towels with a tag that says, explicitly:
* 100% cotton loop
* 100% cotton base
* Made in USA
"Made in USA" does not guarantee that the manufacturer is using USA grown cotton, but it allows the possibility, whereas a towel made elsewhere almost definitely will not contain USA grown cotton. To get USA grown cotton, look for the label to specify "Pima cotton", as this is a top-notch USA grown crop, subject to all USDA-AMS regulations.
Price also gives some indication of the cotton content. It is very difficult to find a pure, USA-cotton terrycloth bath towel for under $15.00.
After locating and purchasing towels meeting the above criteria, cut off all the borders, embroidery, and stitching on all sides. No manufacturer, to my knowledge, uses 100% cotton stitching (aside from Aardvark Towels), as it tends to fray and break while being threaded through guides in a high speed sewing machine (whereas synthetic threads will stretch and tend not to fray).

vettenuts, the Aardvark guy is out of the business, but I am in the towel business. I only carry while colored Fieldcrest Royal Velvets and Fieldcrest Charismas, I ONLY use cotton thread in my serger sewing machine to re stich the edges after we cut and trim them.

Here is my towel info:

I have two kinds of towels, both white color only, edges removed and re sewn on a special machine called a serger with all cotton thread to prevent ravel. I have Fieldcrest Royal Velvet and Fieldcrest Charisma, the Royal Velvets are great but the Charismas are heavier and softer.

My standard towels come in a pack of 2 sized 20 inches by 28 inches approx., one pack of Royal Velvet is 15.00 and one pack of Charismas are 18.00. I can do special orders, full sized towels, 2 to a pack, or 4 to a pack(each pack contains the same amount of toweling, just cut different)

My son just bought a bunch of towels from KLO and the necessary Zano supplies for his new Mini Copper S (great fun and quick little car), I think it takes about half a towel for the Mini. Anyways, I tried them out and they work great.

In addition to the above, make sure they have the US cotton association symbol (or whatever it's called). And read the tags carefully, some say 100% cotton and below it will be "loops only" or something similar in writing so small you can barely see it. You see these a lot at Wallymart and similar discout stores.

To test a towel, take a little bit and burn it in an ashtray. If there's any polyester in the mix it'll melt & form little ***** which are easily detected. 100% cotton will leave a plain black ash with no *****.

What do you ya'll think of them Koala towels sold by CMA? Actually, it looks like pinnaclewax.com has them on sale... 24.95 for a pack of six.

Safer to just stick with my local Z distributor?

Here is a good web site http://fieldcrestcannonoutlet.site.y...yalvelvet.html
they are perfect for the car and cheep because they are Slightly irregular. They are new, plus most people end up cutting the edges off the towles anyways so who cares if they are irregular!
:cheers:

Ever think about using the California water blade? We use it at the shop and it is an awesome product. We will be carrying them in the next week or two. Saves a lot of time and as long as you keep it clean, which is easy, it will not damage your paint.

Thanks for the input.

Scott, do you just cut off the edges without serging them? I've tried that before and after a few washes, I get long strands of thread hanging out.
