Microfiber Towels - Specific Choices?
Hello everyone! My order was just placed for a 2017 GS (Racing Yellow!). I'm going to have lots of questions for y'all over the next two months. I wouldn't call myself 100% beginner, but definitely still very green. I have clayed with success, but never used a polisher, for example. So I would like to learn more and keep getting better with my detailing skills. My scenario is we live in a condo, but have an open air covered garage. Tons of dust and dirt in the air from a lot of continual construction / building in our area. We do not have a car wash at the condo, so we have to drive to use one as needed. The car will be covered pretty frequently.
Today's question: Microfiber Towels. There are so many choices. I want only the best of the best for the job.
1. Is it a good rule of thumb that the higher the GSM, the less likely to cause micro-scratches?
(From previous member posts, it seems the good ones are Korean and go from 470-1100 gsm.)
2. Is the 1100 good for every task (drying, wax & polish removal/ buffing/ detailing spray, rinseless wash, etc)? (It would be super if I could just buy a ton of 1100 gsm and then keep them in separate containers for each task (Wheels vs Top of Car vs Windows, etc).
Based on member posts, I have narrowed it down to 3 companies from which to buy: The Rag Company, Chemical Guys, or Microfiber Tech.
3. Any preferences on who has the better quality towels?
4. If you can recommend *specific* towels for each task, that would be appreciated so very much (IE... Company, Stock # if available or Specific Name of Towel w/ GSM, Size, Link, Edgeless or not? etc).
And lastly, is anyone else this OCD?
Thank you all so much!

1100 = better for rinselss, not polish/wax/sealant removal

Tried them all. IMO Adam's Triple Soft is as good as it gets. Very absorbent and fewer swipes when quick detailing. I must admit though, I liked them more when they came without the borders.

Former Vendor
http://www.autogeek.net/mfchart.html
As offered, there are many different MF towels and often designed for different areas of car care. For instance, using a super thick and super soft towel for polish removal may not work as well as they do for a spray wax. Likewise, you may not need to spend the same amount of $$ for a tire specific towel as you would for paint.
Autogeek offers a chart and the very best in towels. We also get special opportunities for MF towel companies and add them (with description) on our site. Remember to also care properly for MF towels, you don't simply wash them with other towels and laundry.
Good luck on the new ride ...use of Detailing How To (see our toolbar) to help as needed. You can also call us, PM me, or use our forum.

Yes. I use the car care hobby as a health way to feed it!
Anyway.. i was in the same position as you. But i'm still learning what i like. What i've done is buy a few from each vendor, after reading/watching the links that were posted above.
Adam's makes a triple soft edgeless white towel that is uber soft and for me works well for applying a spray sealant or QD. wish i had more of them.
Also use their grey edgeless and blue waffle towels for various things. like them both.
I'm still in the process of finding my favorite for waterless/rinseless.
I liked a waffle towel from Chemical guys but to me they seem to fall apart too easily (the edging comes off in the wash). Right now my lowell of choice for this is the Autogeek blue/grey shine and buff.
Im going to try the ones you posted above...bc..well...im in search of perfection
Make sure to let us know what you like
