Best wax/polish for a black car besides Zaino?
I've been using Meguiars Gold Class for some time now on all my cars and really love it. The problem is, is that the Z06 is the first black car I've owned in years and it leaves those wet looking smears. Almost as if it's not completely drying even though I wax the entire car before removing it. Is there a better wax that you detailing gurus recommend? Something that gives a great shine and doesn't leave that residue? Or is Zaino my absolute best option?

Try Zaino, and try P21S, the P21S gives a great shine, it does not last very long but looks great. Zaino IMO looks best on black cars, I see more black Zaino'd cars than any other color, they look so good I ALMOST want to buy a black car, this way you can see what looks best to you.

Besides Zaino, I would suggest P21S, Klasse, then Blackfire.

I know exactly what you mean about Meguiars GC smearing on black. After trying several products, including Zaino, I prefer Pinnacle Souveran on black. Their Paintwork Cleansing Lotion is great stuff. P21s is almost as good, about 1/2 notch below. It is also much cheaper ~$25 as opposed to $50 or $60 for Souveran. I have both, and use the Souveran on black. If I were buying only one again, it would probably still be Souveran but it's pretty close. It goes on and off so easy, it is fantastic.

Nat, no these products are sold mail order only, as are over half of the top 46 products that The Wax Test tested, as I said try a few items, P21S was the top rated carnauba product (it is the best carnauba product I have ever used) and the number one rated carnauba wax by The Wax Test http://www.gurureports.org , if you want durablity and great shine try Zaino.

Thanks for the info guys! I appreciate it! I think i'll give the P21S a try and if that doesn't suit me, I'll go all out and buy the Zaino.

Hey Nat, I've been using the Gold Class on my black '90 for some time and haven't experienced your problem. Could be a problem with whatever you're using to remove the residue. I had a similar problem on a dark blue car several years ago and finally realized it was caused ( I think) by the fabric softner I used on my towels, etc. Stopped using softner in dryer and didn't have any more problem. Hope this helps.

Hmmmmm very interesting Don. I never thought that it could be the towels I'm using. I'll have to give that a try as well. Thanks for posting!

Pinnacle Souveran would be my first choice on black, but just like anything else, no product will perform to it's maximun level unless you have prepped the surface properly. 3M makes a great line-up of products for surface prep.
Other great choices would be P21S/S100 as far as "pure" waxes and Klasse as a polymer.
Many of the mail order items that have been mentioned can be found at: http://www.properautocare.com A great company to deal with. :D

:withstupid: Without a doubt Pinnacle Souveran is the BEST! I put many coats of Z on my dark red vette and the shine was very good, but I then switched to Souveran and the color is now more wet with more depth! Glad I made the switch!

As was previously mentioned, all these can be found at Classic Motoring Accessories online at http://www.properautocare.com. I have ordered many supplies(buffing pads, etc.) from them in the past and they have great customer service and fast shipping.

I've had my black '02 coupe for approx. 1 yr, and have not as yet become a Zaino-ite....besides Meguiar's, I use Pinnacle Souveran, not just the wax but all of their products. I'm quite pleased with the results, so give it a shot and see what you think! :)

While the Wax Test showed P21S as the Carnuba Winner, I beg to differ. I suspect the beading and smaller price was the reason it came out ahead. Pinnacle Soveran clearly provides a more 3 Dimensional Finish and reflectivity. I recently tried P21S and Klasse to see their difference, and still stand by my personal conclusions.
***I found the Wax Test to be flawed also, as they used many different pieces of many cars that were similar in color and year, not exact. To make a fair assessment, you would need identical specimens with same coats of paint, clearcoat, weathering, and other variables including exposure to acid rain and specific polutions in the area where these cars spent there life. While they seem to have remained impartial and dedicated, I believe they could have done a better job (no flames) , and this can lead to many different outcomes. I hope their followup uses more sterile testing plates.

As stated in my other post, I switched from Zaino to Pinnacle Soveran paste wax. I was a Zaino loyalist for over two years but I tried the Pinnacle out of curiousity and found the shine to be awesome. Much easier to put on and take off (using microfiber towels helps) and no need to layer multiple coats. I know there are thousands of Zaino users out there that are very pleased but I am always looking for something new to try. Pinnacle does not need to dry to a haze, just wipe on and wipe off. I can do my whole car in 15-20 minutes easy. Anyway that just my humble opinion...
