When "shampooing" the carpet, I use the same products the pro's use-
Steamway, Pro's Choice, Magic Wand, ec...

I also use a good quality heated extractor.
The equipment, technique and heat range will be as important(if not more), than the chemical you choose.

Most of the products I have looked at in the past that are consumer grade(Autozone - Wal Mart), do not actually remove the dirt or stains very well-
They seem to break the dirt down, but then how do you remove the deep down grime? (with an extractor)

Also, when I used to look at the consumer grade products, they were designed to spray on and scrub..., actually leaving chemicals on the carpet
(The towel or whatever you used to scrub or vacuum picked the surface dirt and pushed the remainder of the grime to the bottom so you could not see it and in the long run "attracted" more dirt because with this method there is no real way of "removing" the chemical or dirt completely, IMO

To get the carpet "really clean" from the bottom up, an extractor, heat, dwell time and the correct chemicals are needed.

At least this is the method I have learned from professional carpet cleaners.

Anything you ever needed to, or wanted to know about carpet and upholstery care..., these guys are, IMO, the best I have found, with an approved school with the IICRC and Joe Dobbins on hand..., what more could you ask for(it is great to have the information and products located so close

Research is a good thing..., especially when it comes to detailing.

The guys(and gals) on the first link I posted are true pro's and very knowledgable when it come to the trade..., they are not the typical "$79 to clean a house full of rooms" types..., they are real pro's that take pride in their work and know the chemicals and techniques to get the best out of a cleaning session..., I have also learned a lot from them
