Default Z06 to track in Norway, VERY impressive

Hi just wanted to tell you guys what you already know, its a BEAST.

A couple of friends drove to a race track 400 miles away, we rented the track for a whole day and had a blast.
http://www.rudskogen.no/asp/sider.as...ID=33&sideID=0

this track is used by Norwegian version of Top gear and have a professional driver to drive all their test cars.
http://www.nrk.no/autofil/
They have managed 1 min and 9 sec with a new BMW M5 and 1 min 5 sec. in a Koenigsegg.

Z06 did it in 1 min 4.5 sec on slicks
On runcraps i manged a 1.06.5 round

Car is well behaved, controllable and fun to drive, my only complaint is brakes, yes i know everyone love em, i cooked em.
Brake pedal went to floor, luckuly it happened on a cool down lap.

So better brake fluid, better pads and this is a proper track car.

My friend got a bit hot in the cockpit in his new 2006 SRT coupe trying to beat my 1.06.5 time, he found the limit, lets leave it at that
he did a 1.06.26 on his Michelin Pilot Sport tires,

I will try Michelin tires on our next track tour, i "think" it is a stickier tire.
That said i was impressed with the runcraps, they where easy to modulate and control, but not the traction i was hoping for.

thanks for listening

Rune

Welcome to the Forum, Rune! It's good to hear the Z06 is appreciated internationally.

Keep us posted on your adventures in Norway, they should be interesting.

Wow, what a great looking track! It made me look at how expensive it would be to bring you your rotors personally. What the heck, I am 50% Norwegian and have never been there!

Great story and great times.
Please install cooling ducts for at least your front brakes. Also find someone (aftermarket) who sells race pads for your brakes (AP, Pagid, Performance Friction, etc). Use upgraded brake fluid (Castrol SRF).
Let us know how this works out.

Good Luck

Yep Norwegian socialist gouverment, think all of us should drive Yugo, and we who refuse has to pay for all the others medical, school etc.

Any news on the rotors ? and a good place to find good pads to go with it ?

Later

I will try Pilot sport Cup tires next.

I just found out that my slicks where 480 rating and i did not get them up to temp, i managed around 120-140 they should be 160-210.

Ship car to Mexico and just drive the Z over the border and plates will be 80 bucks. Place is wide open anyway.

The Goodyears work better at the track, I have had a set of 345 Pilot Sports and 325 Goodyears on several tracks and the GY's are quite a bit better.

I agree, GY compared to runflat was a HUGE improvement.
But i would like to know how much better Pilot sport SP2 or CUP tire would be compared to runflat.

GY was nice but they all complain that i was cheating
so next time up i need Cup tires or SP2 tires, what is your opinion ?

also i got the 480 rating GY tire and i never got it up to real working temp, because my brake fluid was cooked from previous sessions with
street tires :-)

regards

Rune,
Welcome to the forum. You are not alone in cooking your brakes. The C5 has good brakes for about 5 hard laps and then they go away. These is when aftermarket products come into play. Keep reading and asking questions, then you will know all the right stuff to get.

Thanks
Randy

PS If you need any help with your car over there, I know a very smart GM guy. We works on ZR1's, Z06's, c4's. Let me know

I need a little repaint of my right fender as a guy in front of me missed apex and went off track on inside and threw rocks at me :-(

To disconnect the headlights, you should be able to unplug them at the bulb. The other thing that you can try, is to pull up on the parking brake only one click. This shouldn't engauge the brake but it may turn off the lights.
The best thing to do on the track is to, tape up the front of the car. All areas that could hit by rocks.
