I am buying a used rear spring to replace my broken one.

I have been told that possibly the standard rear spring for a manual car and the Z06 spring are the same, just the front was different.

Anyone know if this is right? The seller believed one of the two was the same.

I believe it's the other way around - the front Z51 spring and the front Z06 spring are the same. The rear springs are different.

Taken from the GM parts catalog:

2004 rear spring part numbers:
22179019 - MM6, FE1 suspension
22146323 - M30, FE1 suspension
22146646 - M30, FE3 (Z51) suspension
22179020 - MM6, FE3 (Z51) suspension
22146323 - FE4 (Z06) suspension

2004 fron spring part numbers:
15233397 - FE1, not F55 (real time damping)
22178748 - FE1, w/ F55 (real time damping)
15233396 - FE3 (Z51) and FE4 (Z06)

Here are some Spring P/N's, in case you are looking to upgrade:
- Z06 Front spring: 22178729
- Z06 Rear spring: 22188038
- Z51 Front spring: 22178729 (note: same as Z06)
- Z51 Rear spring: 22179020
- Base Front Spring: 22178728
- Base Rear Spring: 22179019

The Z06 rear spring is about 10% stiffer than the Z51 rear - numbers are not 100% known, since the information was not made easily available by GM. Z51 springs are a bit stiffer than F55 springs, which are, in turn, a bit stiffer than base C5 springs.

Thanks...I might have to hunt for a spring now.

I need to get one ASAP. We put the car on the trailer using a hill to get the angles right. Without a hill there is no way to get it off unless I swap out the spring first.
