C5 Vs. S2000
My girlfriend owns an s2000 and for the first time we really got to go a few times. i took her in all respects from a roll and a stop (in more than one run) honestly though that car can handle. she will be SC the car soon and then it might be a little more of a compitition.
that being said, its soooo hott when a girl drives a car like that, and i mean really drive it,

An S2000 with a few suspension modification of around $2-3k can really handle well on the track. A good driver in an S2000 will almost always beat an OK driver in a Z06. S2000s are one of the fastest cars on the track in stock trim and a few suspension improvements. They are light and the engine winds out well to around 8000 RPM giving it a decently wide torque curve.
With a supercharger, I would say respect that car a whole bunch.

Dude you must be joking! A z06 will destroy an s2000 on track. I had a student who had one with a supercharger, and that car was extremely difficult to handle.

i dissagree, the few times ive been to autocross events the s2k has out done most corvetts.
but i will say the track can favor one car or the other. (really curvy =s2000, more straghtaways=vette.

Check out the event results at www.speedventures.net and look at the low lap times for Vette's and S2000's, very comparable among the experienced drivers. At Buttonwillow last time out there were several Z's and 2000s doing just above 2 flat, I think on the 13 config. Like most agree, all depends on the driver.

I agree if your student did not have the suspension modifications, while it can be a decent handling car, it can also be ill-mannered at times.

I seriously doubt that...I'd love to do some tracks out west, but if I did it would be in a rental car. How can you say that a car with a curb weight of 3179 with 240 hp will outperform a 3050 lb z06 with 400 hp? Especially with 315's all around the z is one of the best handling cars around.

With the right driver and a few suspension mods, watch out, you will have your work cut out for you.

i will say the track can favor one car or the other.
The 2004+ S2000 benefits from the following major enhancements:
* Larger displacement 2.2-liter engine (240 horsepower @ 7800 rpm and 162 lb.-ft. of torque @ 6500 (replaces 240 hp @ 8300 rpm and 153 ft.-lbs. @ 7500 rpm )
* Larger wheels and tires (17-inch)
* Revised suspension tuning
* Revised transmission gear ratios and improved shift feeling
Both weigh around 2700 lbs in autox trim.

I don't think you can derive too much out of speedventure results...too driver dependent. I did a speedventures event at sebring, and I have the track record for them...not even a good time and I had never even ran the track before...see below, oh there seems to be an s2000 in the results as well, only 6 seconds behind...

All I now is my C6 is significantly faster on any course than my supercharged 305 WHP S2000 was with the same driver.....That driver was ME. A well setup/well driven S2000 is certainly no slouch on track and they are a blast to drive but, a well setup/well driven Z06 should smoke it everytime. My C6 certainly does. If you need any proof just look at the SCCA national times. Well driven Z06's are typically 2-3 seconds or more faster than S2000's...... on an autocross course that heavily favors the S2000 over the Z06.. On a true road course the margin between the two only gets bigger.

The whole premise of what I said is that the S2000 is a great track car and it deserve respect, especially when I good driver is behind the wheel. If you go back to my original statement I said:
"A good driver in an S2000 will almost always beat an OK driver in a Z06."
I still maintain that this is an accurate statement. I never said the S2000 is faster, but unless you are a good driver in a Z06, you might just get beat by an S2000 that has one behind the wheel.

i agree with you 100%. its also way easier to get to the limit in a low power, high grip car.

Now high HP tracks like Big Willow...well you can guess...apples and oranges but if the gentleman with the C6 wants to reference there competitiveness, check out Speedventures and look up the name Rylan...he has a gutted basically stick engine and full aero on RA1's not even slicks and he's competing with Comp Coupes, and GT3 cup cars...driver, track my friend it's all relative but then again I'm just a novice that does the red neck shuffle with not much talent at all! I love my Vette and appreciate it for it's abilities but again, apples and oranges...get my dreft?
