It was my 396 that broke. Spun 7 and 8 rod bearings. Actually when I pulled it apart there were no more 7&8 bearings. 
The more I think of it, the motor already had a very faint knock when cold that I may have mistook for piston slap. So it came unglued beating up on the exotics.
