Trans-Am is Back!!
Looks like only the title of my original post came through.
I'm a corner worker and news like this travels fast.
Check out the SCCA home page. Trans Am will run 2 races THIS YEAR at Heartland Park, Topeka, KS. The first will be in conjunction with the double national Labor Day weekend with the race being on Monday, Labor Day. The second is scheduled for the Sunday prior to the official beginning of the SCCA Runoffs practice on October 8.
It looks like Ray Irwin, the track owner and a fellow racer, is working to keep the series alive. See you there.

As much as I like Trans-Am, I think running two events just to keep the streak of consecutive seasons going is pretty lame... when I saw TA last year at the SJGP it was a pretty sad show...

August 2, 2006 - Sports Car Club of America, Inc. announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Heartland Park Topeka that will allow the track to conduct two Trans-Am® races in 2006, thus allowing the longest continuously-running road race series in the United States to continue on with that distinction.
but just a patch that needs a long term solution.

One thing I would hope for is that a "bridge" between SCCA's GT1 class and the Trans Am series can be built or strengthened if already in existing.
Last year's T/A series had cars that were so technologically sophisticated that even the best GT1 cars could not hope to stay close to those cars. I think SCCA needs to lower the tech requirements somehow (Grand Am is doing it) so the amatuers are motivated to "step up."

I'd love to see a revived Trans-Am Series with mostly stock pony cars like in the 1960s and early 1970s.
New Camaro to go on sale in early 2009

I miss the Trans Am days from the mid 90's... That was good stuff!

Anyone who is a fan of these cars needs to see the June Sprints at Road America. 31 GT-1 cars and a fast track with several flat out corners! For results and pix try http://www.gt1da.com/board/index.php...opic=3615.html
The remains of T/A are trying to be picked up by American GT which usually get a 20 car field and are spectator events (typically a support race for Rolex GT or ALMS). Check out http://www.americangt.com
