I need help about enclosed Car Trailers
I am looking at car trailers (the box type) and I have no prior experience. I’m looking at a 21 ft (102 wide) with interior locker, custom wheels, beaver ramp, with a 10,000 lb. GVW. The brand is Wells Cargo and it’s a 1997 (it looks new). I’ll be able to find out more later, the seller is looking for the highest offer by next week.
1. Is Wells Cargo a good brand?
2. How do I know what is the value?

Wells Cargo is more of a stuff hauler brand than a car trailer brand.
Pace, Haulmark, Aluminum Trailer Company, Exiss, and Featherlite are your car brands that will be recognized and easier to sell in the future.
21' won't be long enough unless you are just buying this to haul a show car and not anything else. IMO 24' ought to be the minimum.
Check eBay for other trailer prices - there's a brand new haulmark 20' for $5600. again - too small IMO, but you get the idea.
Miles on trailer? Maintenance - brakes, bearings, any leaks? Check tires for dry rot - they don't do well sitting in the sun.

I am using a 2006 Chevy Duramax/Allison HD2500 to tow. This Wells Cargo has a bubble at the upper half of the front end (so I dont know as of yet if this is used in the measurements) and has a few feet of cargo space up front. I just found out it is going to auction next week.
The owner used it for some Antique car or other times for a Corvette.
It has a rather large door over the wheel wells on the drivers side.
I am looking to get this for a reasonable price.

You will not be happy with a 20' for very long.....
My next one will be 32ft not counting the gooseneck...

I have a 28' Pace. Spend the extra money now. You'll end up saving more money later when you want to upgrade to that bigger trailer. You have plenty of truck to pull a 28'er.

a deal is not a good deal if you have to buy a bigger one latter. Of if your saying, "well the vette is 14 feet long and the trailer is 21 feet long, that is plenty of room." No offence.
Just becuase the price is right does not mean it is a good deal in the long run.
Good Luck

So 20' would be easy. So please enlighten me why 28' is a good choice? Seems pretty long and more weight/size to tow.
Graham - come check out my 24' at an event and I will show you why it is really the min needed...

There are certain inevitable truths - one is that as soon as you have a trailer - you WILL bring more stuff. And stuff begets stuff.
the next thing you know - you'll be bringing a spare set of wheels / tires, a rollaround tool box, spares, coolers, EZ Up, pit vehicle - 4 wheeler or golf cart, and so on and so on.
By the time you tie down a car - and you never get it all the way in the back, and have some cabinets, you'll find you have little room for anything else.
for a single car, we have a friend that has a 32' (overall) gooseneck and that's perfect. for a tag - the 26 leaves a decent amount of room if you have cabinets.
I am not a big fan of the cabinets, as I store my trailer and don't like to leave stuff in there. (Had one stolen once...) with the humidity, potential for leaks, maybe needing it at home, etc - we leave very little in the trailer. Found it much easier to roll everything in and out so we only need once set of tools, etc.
24' is the bare minimum - trust me.
I am the happiest when we haul ONE CAR in our 48' gooseneck.
You can never have too much trailer OR too much tow vehicle.

The big one are the axles. shorter trailers have 3500 lbs axles or less.
I have 24 footer. from the nose of my car in the trailer to the front of the cabenits is 4 feet, then 2 feet of cabints. Still some room between the front of the car and cabinets, which comes in handy if it raining at the track and you dont want to take the car out yet. There is still a some room
a 28 footer gives you more room too.
rember 24 foot trailer ~ 3000 #s + 3200#s vette + 1000#s of junk ( spare wheels, tools, jack, rotors misc. chairs, tent more junk Ok make that 1200# that is up to 7500 lbs real fast.
