Default Ron Fellows' One Lap of Road America

http://www.speedtv.com/articles/alms/auto/30755/
Going up the front straight, we'll hit more than 170 mph in the Corvette C6.R. That's the fastest top speed that we see on any race track in North America – the only place that's faster is Le Mans.

Thanks!

Someone got something wrong though..

"Then it's up the hill to Turn 3. I shift down a gear and turn in early to make sure that I can get to the center of the corner – sometimes it's a little slick going in there. Then I get on the throttle as quickly as possible for the long straight to Turn 5.
IIRC, it's down the hill to Turn 3.

I love this..

"That takes you to the most exciting corner on Earth, the Kink. You're flat-out in sixth gear when you turn in, and the right foot always wants to lift off the gas just a little. At that speed you can't use a lot of curb because it just upsets the car. You use every inch of the road when you're fast through the Kink.
Very exciting turn, but I would have to believe that Eau Rouge at Spa is more exciting.

The front straight is the fastest part of the track. In a relatively stock C5 Z06, you can hit between 140 and 150 (depending on driver) before T1.

Lou was hitting about 160 with his modified C5 FRC (approx. 450 hp with a h/c and header package, big brake kit, Penske shocks and slicks) back in 2003 when he was up there for a club event.

Tom, not really all that different from SCCA Pocono long in my C6Z. At the end of the main straight you hit the rev limiter in 4th (about 164MPH) and brake like hell for T1.

Yeh I guess Frank

On VIR back I have done 152, and the T1 guys do 145-148. The Watts brothers have had their new Z up to 165-170 on VIR back straight, then brake like heck

As I remember the qualifying lap was a 2.00.2x only about 37 seconds faster than my personal best. The video link on the thread about DeMatta really shows how fast some of these guys get up to out there.

We were out there in April and 4 C6Z's showed up and the one guy running R-compounds was getting up to 160+ mph at the end of the front streach. I typically see 145-147 mph but my favorite section is from 6 to 13 a lot of really fast stuff through there!

Cool to here that from Ron though, I met him last year and he is one of the nicest guys I've met. I also gave him a little crap about not getting into the 1.59's.

Velocity going into 1, 5 & 12 is about the same for me (about 140-145). I could have a higher speed going into Canada corner, but I'm lifting way before the kink and accelerating gently thru at 100 MPH or less.

I thought it was a little scary at 2:34.xxx.

34 seconds a lap faster!

I was there in 04 and was seeing high 160-174 on the radar gun for the top cars on street tires that had just been driven 6000 miles in 8 days. On my car my car was 154, but they had us NOT using the KINK!!!!!! trying to keep the speeds down. I was able to get my car back up to low to mid 140's going into canada corner. Got love One Lap.
