'80's SCCA Escort Series, searching for info(?)
Im researching info on the SCCA Playboy/Escort Endurance series, specifically the SS (Super Stock) Class cars from '86 and '87.
Wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of pics, entry lists, results, and the rules.
I have tried contacting SCCA Pro Racing, but have not received a reply as of yet.
Thanks for any help,
Jim B.

Win raced in it and won lots of stuff. It was good to be the cute kid in the pits back then. They had some playboy girls running around. I have no idea where you can dig up information.

I should have some old programs and On-Tracks in the garage that might help. If I find some I will let you know so I can get an address. There was also the Firehawk series that ran about the same time.

A guy named Steve Christopher supplied fuel for the series in NEOhio. He was based in Columbus, OH, but he know lives near Topeka, KS.
He just started racing in SCCA SS/C. I don't know how to get hold of him, but someone here who is involved in road racing from that part of the country might.
Steve could have some info for you.

Doing a yahoo search of Bakeracing produced 7 pages of articals and other source material (he was winning most of that stuff back then). You may also want to try the BFG archives, as they were involved pretty heavy then with the T/A Radial.

You could also reach out to Tommy and Bobby Archer. They were running Renault Alliant GTA's then.
Long way from the Vipers of today.

Kim Baker, thats a name I haven't heard in about 10 years. He brought some very fast cars. I will have to ask Doug more about these times next Friday. During friday lunch time it's like old racing stories time. I was pretty young back then, but loved cars.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the leads.
I believe that Baker Racing won the Endurance Championship in both '86 and '87 (yellow/black #4 and #5 team cars), I think that Bobby and Tommy Archer drove for Baker in either one or both of those years.
Some other names were Powell Motorsports (which won in '85, then called the Playboy Endurance Cup) - I believe they still exist. Morrison/Cook came in 2nd in the '86 Championship. Also an RA Motorsports, Oliver Racing, and RCG ran cars in '86.
Apparently about 12 Corvettes finished the 6 race series along with/against 8 Porsche 944 Turbos in '86.
But I have not been able to come up with any '87 results. And I have no results from any of the individual races.

Geez, Randy, thanks for that link.
Seeing those cars brings tears to my eyes.
And the names! Hayner, Freddy Baker, Ruhlman, Andy P, Tommy Kendall, Boris...those were some golden times. Weren't they?

Randy, thanks for looking for a link and posting it. I did find the Smugmug/Mark Windecker photos some time ago, and that was actually my source for about 75% of the pics I currently have of the Series. But you can see, that he only has pics from the 24hr races at Mid Ohio and Nelson Ledges, and then also posts the final standings for the '86 series, but unfortunately no pics at all from the 87 series. I contacted Mark, and he promptly replied that he unfortunately was not at any of the 87 races.
Some of the other names associated with the Series, that may ring a bell, were the late Al Holbert (who was the head of Porsche Motorsport North America-PMNA at the time), Bill Adam, Derek Bell, and Price Cobb. Elliott Forbes Robinson also co-drove a preproduction 944T for Brumos Porsche in '85. All big time IMSA Camel GTP Drivers at the time.
Actually, it was quite an impressive effort by GM and the Corvette teams to win like they did. The 944 Turbos imported and/or setup by PMNA were fast, and at least for some of the races, the Porsche teams brought in some hot shoe drivers. Two of the cars were raced by PMNA under the Rothmans blue/red sponsorship colors, driven by Holbert, Bell, and Adam at one or more of the '86 races.
And thats much of why Im interested in finding individual race results, just to see who the drivers were and how the cars finished.

If the Corvette wasn't so good, there wouldn't have been a Corvette Challenge Series when they were asked to leave. Follow Lou G.'s posts on how SCCA is asking the Corvette to leave WC (or IMSA in ALMS for that matter)

scca, alms, and others are not asking the corvettes to leave at all. I don't know why you are thinking that at all. They put road blocks in front of them. Like most racers they just going to get faster with harder work. Lets take ALMS. If Corvette is winning everything all the time, what car company would even try to go race. Look at Corvette Racing calender, they have won everything for the past 3-4 years. I don't mind seeing a auston martin win everyonce and awhile. All I am trying to say is, it would be a boring race if only one team won everything.
Thanks
