Default Z06 Seat People - good alternative

A friend and I were comparing seats. He has the Z06 seats and I have the sport seats. He was pissed that I have the pass through for the belts at the top of the seat and he did not. why the Z06 doesn't have this option is beyond me.

anyway the other day he calls me and says he solved the problem. He bought seat covers from ECS and changed his seats over to the sport seats.

Here is his post regarding the seats with some pics (he was posting that it was not just a "good looking mod"). I thought some of you would like to know this as an alternative to buying new seats or trying some work around.

Although they do look pretty good and are thick 100% leather, unlike GM's junk.

I've done two sets of these already (my car and ECS sample seats) If you work on your own vette just about anyone can install these. This is a great winter project.

However if anyone is interested in installation PM myself or Chris for the details. Here are some pics from my interior.

Did that a couple of years ago on my '00 FRC. Here's a link to some pictures I took during my conversion. It only takes a couple of hours unless you've got some seat repairs (torn foam rubber, cracked seat frame, etc.) to do the seat backs. I haven't replaced the seat bottoms yet.

One of these days I'm going to learn how to put together a web page.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

i didn't realize it was possible until my friend did it. He was very happy with the results and now feels safer with the HANS device and belts working correctly....

Well, if the foam is being replaced anyway, why not make a replacement foam with better leg and shoulder support as well?

You can stuff a little more into the skins, but without the structural support it'll just move out of the way.

Have a good one,

Extra foam can be glued in and then shaped with an electric knife. The glue I saw used was a contact cement, placed on both pieces, allowed to dry to "tacky" and then placed together. The name on the can was "Barge Cement", I think.

I went with the Al Knoch seat covers. I paid $75 extra to have the Z06 logo embroidered like the standard Z06 seat has. The Al Knoch covers have leather seating surfaces and vinyl in the non seating surfaces. Vinyl is better for wear since it is actually tougher and the same color all the way through. The covers can also be switched from side to side since they did not use fabric on the inside seat back bolsters. The only issue I ran into is my car is an 03 and that is the first year GM put the child safety seat hooks into the passenger seat. That means the seat foam and the seat bottom have access holes for the child seat. Al Knoch didn't realize that and I had to send the seat covers back to be modified to fit the newer seat design.

chris how does changing the seat work if you have side airbags? Is there no other way to mount belts on the stock seats, I like mine.
