Default Holes in air dams to cool rear-ends on C5's

I was out at Road America this weekend and I was talking with a guy from Michigan driving a 03 Z06 when I noticed 3 holes in his air dam. I asked him about it and he said that he talked with a GM engineer that told him it would help cool the rear end 15 to 20 degree's. The holes were right in the middle of the center air dam and about an inch toward the outside of the left and right air dams. The holes were about 2.0" in diameter. He told me that they wanted to put the holes in the production car but they didn't do it because they didn't like the way it looked. I would think that it would help get a little more air flow under the car, which would help. I just wanted to see if anyone here has tried it.

This will adversely effect engine cooling and slow you down on long straights.

And more air going under the car could theoretically hurt the handling.

We installed a small wing to rear xross member to deflect some air upward to trans tunnel area to create some air circulation >.The installation of couple 12 volt fans in tunnel area stopped all trans overheating warnings.

Never heard of that... but installing a small diverter to the rear x-member sounds like a good idea... pictures?

Just a small wing about 12 inches by 6 inches attached to xross member with lead battery bolts(easy shear off if you decide how off pavmeent excusion at speed are) Along with insulating entire exhaust system, synthetic lub with a hydraulic fluid coolant additive.

Porcshe makes a small diverter for their brakes which would be good.

O.K. you guys tore that idea up pretty quick, I was just asking because it seems like of you get the air moving around a little more under the car it might keep the heat from collecting in the back end where the heat from the tunnel, and exhaust would tend to collect.

I just asked the guy about it and he told me that at Gratten and Gingerman he would always have his Tranny temp warning come on and now it doesn't.
