Default Waxer's Guide to Laguna Seca & Racing

I'll be going to Laguna Seca for the ALMS finale later this month with some other SoCal CF members. I know a couple of them are from the "show & shine"/"cruise-in" branch of the Corvette community, and will be hearing a number of terms for the first time which they might misinterpret. To lessen the chances of them commiting a verbal faux-pas, I started making up a list of track and racing terms, some Laguna Seca specific (*), to serve as a tutorial to save the novice (aka waxer) race attendee from embarrassment. Any additions/revisions you guys can come up with would be greatly appreciated.

1. The "Racing Line" is NOT associated with gambling odds

2. the "Paddock" is NOT an area where you stable your horse

3. The "Pits" are NOT slum areas of the track

4. The "Andretti Hairpin"* is NOT a fashion accessory

5. The "Hot Pit" is NOT the track's barbeque area

6. "Corner Workers" are NOT hookers or drug dealers

7. The "Rahal Straight"* is NOT a reference to someone's sexual preference

8. "Lola" is NOT a reference to the 1970's Kinks song

9. "Pole Position" is NOT a reference relating to sexual intercourse

10. "Pit Stops" are NOT driver's bathroom breaks

11. "Audi" is NOT Australian slang for hello

12. The "Corkscrew"* is NOT the track's wine tasting area

13. "Porsche" is NOT a reference to the Shakespearean character

14. "Aston Martin" is NOT a Doc Martens shoe line

15. The "Rainey Curve"* is NOT wetter than the rest of the track

16. "Brake Zones" are NOT driver's rest areas

17. "ALMS" is NOT some type of debilitating disease

18. A "Gurney Lip" is NOT the result of a botched Botoxx injection

19. "IMSA Lites" are NOT an aftermarket headlight upgrade

20. "P1, P2 and P3" are NOT different types of porta-pottys

Hey Joe:

Thanks for that last one. I never knew that. Now maybe I won't get kicked out of the garages anymore. I could never understand that violent reaction I got when using those really cool thrones. The need for harnesses confused me and they are really rough on those tender areas.

that last means when I build my a garage / shop I will have to lable the bathroom 'P1' and put a harness system on the old race seat over the hole in the floor

Most of those should be a NASCAR fan's guide though.

Most of them will be to busy trying to keep their car clean in the corral.

Rather hilarious watching some old man clean his car then have a big dust cloud roll by and watch him freak and then start over.

Sounds like someone whose been to Laguna more than once. Parking there is a waxers nightmare unless of course the fog rolls and the dust gets wetted on everything, then they commit suicide.
