Can anyone make any suggestions for a brand or type of glove for use in handling hot car bits at the track? Of course it would be nice if they had SOME flexibility--so don't tell me to get oven mitts or something!

We've been using the standard Mechanix-type gloves but found they aren't heavy duty enough temperature-wise all the time.

I use a set of kevlar gloves. They are off white in color and have red dots on them. I don't have a clue were I got them I think maybe pegusas racing.

go to a welding supply store for some good gloves or online but it is nice to try them on for size, Don't expect to pick up a dime with them like Playtex add use to say.

Playtex gloves, geez you are showing your age John, and so am I by knowing what that ad was! Fireplace stores have good gloves as well.

Thanks for the info people!! I know not to expect dime picking up powers with any gloves, but I was just hoping to avoid some big-blobby-foam-finger-esque glove. http://www.westsky.com/1fingr.gif

BTW I think it's sweet John S knows about Playtex gloves--maybe he used to be this nice little kid that helped his mum with the dishes!

I've found that a nice pair of leather gloves (like farm gloves) works great and offers the flexibility of picking up a dime. I wouldn't grab a hot rotor with them, but I work on my exhaust all the time after track sessions. They protect me very well if I bump against or need to reposition something.

If you really need to hold on to something hot for awhile, get some think leather welding gloves as stated above. But no "touch".
