NCM event at VIR
NCM event at VIR, some of my fun.
Needed a vacation bad……….and this was the ticket!
No issues getting there, getting teched at the host hotel and getting into VIR, a nice drive out.
The VIR lodge was nice to be sure, the beer always good too
We did play with the karts Sunday after we finally got unloaded.
I think someone paid for my 1st carts DS spindle to be broken…………only cambered in at say 25 degrees! I drove it for 6-8 laps, LH turns were tough, rh & straights fine. I finally got towed in after I broke the throttle cable trying to make up for slow turns. The broke cart was fun to try and drive at WOT, but the next one was also fun making left turns. A good time for all
Onto the HPDE.
Once again the NCM crew, instructors, volunteers and VIR staff did another great job.
Last time I was at VIR was 2002, loved the track them…….but life got in the way of going back before now.
I knew I was in for a treat, Danny Popp as my instructor could only help me ………..mister “Throttle, just lift, Brakes to floor, and pointing the line” Does 2 crazies make a right
We proceeded to beat the old 97’ A4 for 2 days, and Danny took it for a spin for a couple of sessions. I told him no worries………..built to beat on.
Even shifted into 2nd just before the brake zone for Oak Tree…….for a quicker out
He definitely helped me get a good feel for the car and Hoosiers on this track.
We found the coefficient of friction limit in T10, T1, and a couple other turns on the final day.it was all good as recovery was quick and good practice
Highest oil temp……..last session on the last day 325!. Not a surprise due to a 6.0 iron truck block and the speed we carried the last day.
Highest Trans temp 274……..same session and not a surprise…..
Coolant never above 224
The big **** end of the C5 have a very thin film of Dex6 on it from the overflow tube doing its job. I only did maybe 3 slow laps the last day just to let the oil/trans cool a little
It was fun to see the regular cast of characters. Meet the new ones AND talk to the folks that had never been to an HPDE prior to this one……….let alone the fun they
had at VIR.
Yesterday I finished brake bleed, swaped tires, heat wrap some more exhaust, cleaning and modding the lower front ait damn to get more air to the trans coolers.......ready for the 1/4 mile Saturday
A few pics I got:
On the ferry to VIR
The karts..........
Bob and his bad belt………he’s lucky he made it in from the last session
My dirty butt……….the norm after 2 days of WOT
Our camp
This guy wanted to be a Ratpack member.........he is now both of them
Front is raised a bit..........must be near WOT
And my RAFT...........
