Towing: Have rear air springs to level truck, still need weight distribution sys?
I have air lift helper springs to level out my truck when towing. Does this negate the effect of a WD setup?
It's my understanding that a WD setup transfers the trailer toung weight to the front wheels so the truck is evenly weighted.
However, if the air bags are inflated so that the truck is level wouldn't this have the same effect?
I was going to get a WD setup, but on the truck forum someone said the WD won't offer any help w/ the bags inflated.

I would think the only effect of the air bags would be to raise the rear ride height, and that you would still have all the tongue weight of the trailer concentrated on the rear tires. That still might be okay, but depends on how much weight that is and what kind of tires you use.
To me it's a big advantage to use the WD hitch to shift as much of that weight as possible to the front of the two vehicle to balance how hard the tires are working. Plus, the WD hitch facilitates use of an anti-sway device and I wouldn't run my enclosed trailer without one of those.

^ Makes sense... I'm going to get one just to be extra safe. I get it that eventhough the truck is level all of the weight is on the hitch still where as teh WD setup lifts up and transfers that weight forward.

The WD hitch with the sway control is so much the way to go. There is no downside to it and if I remember correctly the whole setup was about $300. I have been more scared driving the rig when it started swaying radically (when I first started towing)than I have ever been on the track. It is very short money in the long run considering that it is controlling alot of money and safety.

Sounds good... I'll go for it... just curous how to set it up w/ the bags and the WD setup.
Do you level the truck w/ the bags first, then adjust the WD, or do I setup the WD then air up?
I guess I need to talk to the local trailer folks.

We have a 2500 sub with a enclosed 28-30 footer. The trailer is very front heavy, tool box, and all the other crap. With just the ball hooked up the rig is very unsafe. With the WD setup and sway control, we can drive 85 mph in huge cross winds and you don't know the trailer is back there.

The instuctions tell how to set up using air bags and without. There are some great deals on E-bay for EZ lift WD hitches and sway controls, I payed less that $300.00 for the works. Air bags donot do the same as a WD hitch, they simply raise the rear of the vehicle. Just a note that 4 wheel brakes are another real life saver.

What's better... trunnion bar or round bar? Pros cons? My trailer/car will be 4900lbs but I'll have some tools and spare wheels/tires in my truck bed.
So does that mean I get the one for 500 lbs toung weight and up?
