Checking Interest..HPDE / CI
I was asked to check interest in attending an HPDE in conjuction with Cruise In 2008. The HPDE would be held at Putnam Park in Greencastle, IN. The event would take place the Mon & Tues before Cruise In. We would check in and get teched Sun between 2:00pm & 5:00pm at the Holiday Inn Express in Cloverdale, In. Run the event Mon & Tues. Then have Wednesday to get to CI.
A few guesstimations...
Cost would be approx $350.00 for members of the NCM and $400.00 for non members with a years membership included.
80-100 students in 4 run groups.
Green - Novice
Yellow - Beginner
Blue - Intermidiate
Black - Advanced
Red would be instructor group. We would need instructors. The more the merrier.
Approx 4 run sessions per day plus classroom.
The event hotel is also a guess but more than likely thats where it would be. Not sure of a banquet or any other perks yet. Just getting a feel if there is interest. I have run this track with NCM and had a great time.
This would be a great oppotunity for those that have never attended a High Performance Driving Event to experience what their car is capable of and see how the track hounds live Don't worry waxers...the track turds come off easily and there is no pemenant scarring.
Please post here if you are interested. We need an idea so we can get the ball rolling.

FYI ... NCM is doing a one-day HPDE at Putnam this Oct on Wed prior to the Z06 Fest.
I'm going, so there will be a post-event thread on that.
I've heard good things about the track and we know the NCM puts on a good event.
First-timers ... fear not ... you're in good hands.
Old-timers ... a chance to see how the NCM does things

I'm interested in doing another HPDE. I would be in the novice/beginners group depending on the criteria.
I just got back from Putnam Park on Monday, and I'll also be attending this years HPDE at Putnam in Oct. It's a great track with lots of open runoff area just incase you make a mistake. Very well kept grounds and friendly staff too .

Just out of curiosity, why so expensive? I'm not an HPDE regular, so I can't say I have a real good feel for what they should cost. What does the $400 cover?
I think I paid about $130 for two days of running at Putnam with NCCC.

To answer a couple of questions/points raised:
1: we try to avoid Rovals like Nashville because they have a lot of wall and poor transitional road surfaces. True road courses provide safer venues and better driving experience
2: Unlike NCCC we provide instructors in each car and with 20-25 cars on the track per class, corner workers are required and we use the full complement at every track we run. Safety, safety, safety, learning with fun is our order of priority. NCCC events are basically one lap time trials which is different from the NCM instructional schools when you are on track between 3 & 4 hours in a 2 day period plus classroom.
We are presently working with the East Ohio NCCC region to do a combined event with DE followed by Time Trials.
Anyone with questions on our HPDE program can call me at the NCM, ext 162 or email roc@corvettemuseum.com

So basically alot of the cost is due to paid instructors and corner workers? The entrants don't work corners when not driving?
I understand the difference between NCCC events and an HPDE, just trying to understand where the extra cost comes from for using the same facility.

Plus the amount of track time. Four 25 to 30 mins sessions. So your looking from anywhere from 100 to 120 mins per run gruop per day.
We have found that track paid cornerworks are worth their cost. Volunteers just not quite on the ball. Far more then waving flags.
So no participants do not work corners.

BTW: Instructors are volunteers. They are not paid...Roc was pointing out the difference between NCCC events and HPDEs...
Many of the participants would not want to work after paying for the event they also have prepping they need to do to cars, etc.

Kanmer's pricing was approximate and final pricing is always based on the actual costs. VIR was $445 because the track fees are higher than say Putnam or CMP. Spring Mountain is going live on 8/7 at $435 per person. It's all based on the expenses we incur at each specific track.
These are schools not lapping days although for advanced/instructors they get that time. FATT Fridays at Summit Point for example are just open lapping sessions. There is minimum effort to classify run groups and barest minimum nod towards instruction and those days will be cheaper. The NCM is targeting those enthusiasts who want to take the first steps to tracking their car or just learning to drive it better. We won't be doing timing, open general lapping or teaching racing; there are plenty of other groups doing that and we'll be the first to assist people to locate them.

NCCC High Speed AutoX or Time Trials ... two days, 14 events, 1.1 mile track, $250. (this is for 14 x 2 or three trials ( < 1 minute long) per event. This is competition, not track time.
NCCC HS qualifying schools ... 2 days ~ $300.00.
Friday at the Track ... instruction available ... quality and quantity variable ... one day $225.
One day HPDE event last year at Nashville Roval $300.00
2 days HPDE at Watkins Glen - $400 - 550
So ... you pay for the track and the instruction and the track time.
NCM provides value ... ask anyone who has done one of their events.
