Default Hpde Tires And Brakes For 02 Z06

The original Supercar's are just about toast and there is a NASA event that I want to attend if a few weeks. I need to up grade the brakes and replace the tires before I go. I have read threads in the past on the subject but I can't remember the details so.... if I use NAPA rotors and Hawk pads what is the best value in an all around track/highway tire. I am driving the car to the track, about 1500 miles round trip. I'm rather new to HPDE, NASA group 2, so I'm not looking for a full on race tire. Just something fairly sticky with a mid range price that can handle a little rain. Thanks.

At the lower end of the price range is the Kumho MX. I and a
few others I know run the 275/295 combo for driving to the track and
running them on track. They run 140/240 per tire from Tire Rack last I
checked and America's Tire here will match that, add a bit for shipping
and installation. However, even though I've liked them for 3 years they
don't get good test results for performance from Tire Rack or Car Mags.
I like them better than when I ran off two sets of GY's but that may be
partly a reaction to the economics. When running hard I get about 6
track days out of a set of fronts, little longer for the rears, but in both
cases I swap them side to side after 3 days, since the worst wear is on
the outside edges. I usually end up losing the middle of the tread before
either edge even though I try to remember to air them down leaving
the track at the end of track days. Sure to be other input.

Let me add another question about camber. When I put the new tires on and get an alignment what's the best camber setting when you drive the car to the track.

Second vote for the Kumho MX. My wife uses them on her sometimes-track car. When my old Nittos wear down, I'll be running them for street tires. If you are driving 1500 miles to and from, good to have inexpensive tires.

BFG KD's are a great street tire for track use also. Mine lasted 7 events and about 20k street miles, and you're hard pressed to find a better performing street tire on the track.

3rd vote for the Kumho MX. Especially when price is a factor, as the Kumhos are about the cheapest max-performance tire you can find.

Someone mentioned the poor review they got from Tire-Rack. Does the Tire-Rack testing process account for the way a tire acts when it is hot? I've found from personal experience that the MXs are just as good on the track as any of the other tires I've tried. (That's not a conclusive statement though, because I haven't tried all of the available tires.)

As noted above, the MXs come in about 760 + ship and install.

On the camber, I was running -.2 to -.4, in spec which I think goes
up to -.7. I had the car set at -1.0 and corner weighted and my
times improved quite a bit. I find that the -1.0 doesn't do that bad
on tire wear but I also run them off on track fairly quickly and outsides
get lots of wear on track. The car feels much more secure on track
with the new set up.

The car rags dont bash the MX's for dry traction, they just dont like them in the wet, if I remember correctly.
oh and BTW another vote for Mx's, on my third set and i might try the new faulken 615 azzenis next, they are a lil more aggressive.

Do some research before you get the 615's. They have a reputation of overheating in open track environments and thus becoming greasy. When Grassroots Motorsports Magazine reviewed them they had their fastest autocross time on their first lap. After that, their times fell off due to heat.

Another vote for Kumho Ecsta MX's.

Here is what VB & P says about alignment. I go really agressive street and have no issues with tire wear in daily driving.

Where's that? I would vote for the Supercars. I was very happy with them at the track.
