Default Track challenge from a 2008 Viper

There is a fellow forum member here, Dolph, that has challenged any Corvette Z06 to a race at VIR, 10 laps, stock cars, but the Z06 can wear the same tires as the Viper (custom Michelin PS2).
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...3&postcount=15

I will be very glad to take his challenge and honored to represent the Corvette, but I have my C6 Z06 for less than a year, my first true high power car, so I am too "green". Maybe in a year or two from now, if my track days go as they went so far.

Somebody here that is a better driver than me please consider this challenge if interested.

Thank you!

Although I was there for the NCM event earlier this year, VIR is a bit too far for me. I will gladly accept this challenge at Autobahn in Joliet, IL.

And who or how is the track going to be paid for or rented?

I think this guy has his head up his exhaust pipes.

There are a lot of Stock Vippers and Corvettes at Viper days in July. Viper days does putting timing units in each car.

Havent seen any vipers in the SCCA ST class nor in NASA SU or ST1 classes.

I was @ VIR in July for both the NCM & Chin events... back to back.

We had a good turn-out for both events. As I recall... only 1 Viper/blue with white stripe was there... at the Chin event.

Got two events scheduled... back to back in September... Barber/Chin followed by Road Atlanta with BMW.
Three Vipers are registered for Chin. Looks like an 01 and an 04 along with an 05. No 08's yet.
Once in a while we get a Viper attending the BMW show... won't know until I show up @ the track.

Hhmmm... October... my plans are locked in too.

So I'm not scheduled to return to VIR this year but... if someone can set it up... plans can change !!! Would love to see an 08 Viper @ VIR or Road Atlanta... I'm sure they will be on the tracks next year.

The only Vipers that I have seen that are faster then corvettes is Speed World Challenge Viper comp coupe, but then it was not against a Speed World Challenge Corvette.

I say that the looser to pay for the track rental, timing, video.

Also this does not have to be wheel-to-wheel racing, I think that independent timing and some video taping would do. All details to be agreed.

Pretty hard to stage a contest against a supposed ordered car. Be happy there are vipers, they keep the grass mowing costs down for all of us.

That means each party would have to put up $10,000 IN ADVANCE. not the day of the event, to reserve the track for a day.

Timing on most tracks now is down with AMB transponders http://www.amb-it.com/ (http://www.amb-it.com/tranx-base-system-c-13_14.html)

and recorded on http://www.mylaps.com/

I'm sure that viper will be super fast with a good driver. Most of the vipers I've seen are like most of the C6 z06's --more car than driver, getting passed by much less capable cars.

I am willing to bet $1000 on this challenge.
Meaning to contribute towards the $10000 required advance payment.
Obviously I trust I will get my money back
I am sure that we would win!

Dolph, are you listening?

$1000 wouldn't cover the costs of showing up (tires, travel, etc)... maybe if the pot were larger (profitable for the winner) then something could be arranged. I might know someone crazy enough to take this on.

Hey, how about our own rendition of "Pinks"?

You didn't get my point. I said $1K my contribution, not the total.

But you are 100% correct, the winning driver must have a prize!

How about this:

Looser pays all.
$20K track rental, professional timing and video.
$4K winning driver's prize.

Total $24K. This brings our part of required costs to $12K. I am game ($1K), so we need 11 more Corvette car nuts! We will win and get our money back, plus our driver will get $4000.

Other suggestions?

A cheaper alternative would be to just go to Viper Days. It's around a $600 entry, and they grid by lap time, so ya'll will be at the front of the grid, pretty much. They provide transponders. Now, it's not a "race" in that if you catch someone, they'll have to point you by, but it's easy to see who's fastest.

I have learnt that tracks do not allow true wheel-to-wheel racing for amateurs.

Viper Days may do, probably it can be arranged to have one car at a time on the track for attempting a lap record.
Is there such thing like Corvette Days?

Skip Thomas who runsViper Days does a very good event. In my opinion Viper days is not for newbies or beginners but intermediate skill level and above.

There are plenty of ppl on CF who have done a Viper Days event. There is a timing device in every car. So lap times are recorded.

Hey Trumper, I will be at the BMW weekend at Road Atlanta. I've always run the Panoz Track Days. Have you run with BMW before? What should I expect? PM me.

Tell him I have been ahead of ALL the the Vipers at the Viper Club event at Pocono Lon Course the last 4 or more years. I am not stock but either were they. Leaves them kind of stunned with 346 CI vs 488
