The 01 passed the 99 with a NASCAR type "bump & run" pass and was in a position to take the championship, but was assessed a drive thru penalty for avoidable contact. The 99 won the championship by 2 points over the 01. Neither team had kind words for the other after the race.

I always add 1 hour when recording live racing events just in case they run over the scheduled end time.

Thanks joemoia! I do add time for the F1's, just didn't do it this time for the DP cars.

Pruett got screwed big time. If the 01 was worthy of that lame penalty for the bump, why didn't the 99 get one for tearing up the back of Pruett's car?

Does anyone know anything about the backround of the idiot who spun his car on the first lap and then came back on the track and took out the Mazda. That really looked like a driver with a large wallet and very little experience. One of the dumbest moves I have ever seen.

I, for one, cannot stand Grand Sham. Spec cars, NA$CAR mentality and mediocre drivers for the most part. ALMS and Speed World Challenge GT are much better to watch IMHO.

Well, don't know much about the players but it was fun to watch. As
for the incidents, the 99's front end in about 2 ft. doesn't seem like side
to side and should have been avoidable contact. Then again the punt
by the 01 was just that but should have been treated the same, I'd
suggest.
As for tearing up the rear, that seems to be partly driver error as he
pushed to get back quickly just like Max A. but was lucky enough not
to end in the same ball of flame.
It doesn't seem Chip G. has as many friends as he might need.

For anyone that missed it. The black #31 is a Chase Daytona Prototype (body work was based of a Mosler MT900), and the #70 is a Speedsource Mazda.

I'm not sure that Pruett would have won the championship if he hadn't gotten penalized. The announcers said that he needed a car between himself and the 99 to win. Before he did his drive through that car was the #61. Well, didn't the 61 spin off the track near the end of the race and so wouldn't the 99 have been right behind the 01 at the finish?

guy should be banned for his own safety and safety of others totally stupid if he couldn't see and he pulls out on a near 90* angle. They should take his regular license also, if he has one!

When the 99 and the 01 car hit the first time, the 99 was making an inside pass on the 01 and the 01 turned in and hit the 99, fault...01. That hit was a side hit and the 01 had a tire go down which then shredded and took out the body work. The second hit near the end of the race was cause by the 19 car holdin up the 99 car and a whole string of cars behind which allowed the 01 car to catch back up to the 99. The 19 car is also run by Ganassie and the driver after the race said he was doing what he was told to do. Passing on that over 4 mile track is very very difficult with really only one place to pass unless you have a lot more horses working than the car in front. The 01 then punted the 99 on the straight and it was a direct hit from the rear. No question of fault.....01 guilty. The right team won the championship. Total sour grapes from the 01.
