..C5 ZO6 vs. C6 Z51 auto..?? Which one ???
Am looking for a car to just take to a road course occasionally and
function as a Sunday driver. The price for the C5 ZO6 and a C6
Z51 coupe are very..very close.
Leaning toward the C6 as I could still add a GMPP warranty to
it..but maybe that's not a good reason to buy a car..as often
the warranties don't pay off.
The 2 coupes I found are both automatics..so is that really going
to limit me as far as driving fun on a road course ? Should I
wait till a manual Z51 turns up.
If someone has driven both cars and could respond would be
great...but even theoretical viewpoints will be appreciated..

What is MORE important to you??
The C5Z on the road coarse HANDS DOWN, there is no comparison to the C6 Z51.
Sunday cruzer with occasional trip to the track? C6 Z51, much more civilized car.
The C5Z is just pure grunt.
Wait for the manual if you want the C6Z51, autos are OK but still have to learn how to shift on the road courses with the autos.

Safety Car
C5Z for the win.
The sunday drives will never compare to the track experience, if you are cruising, easy to throw it in gear and chill. You cant make an auto fun on track (well maybe remotely with paddles).

C5
You cant beat a stick. Drivers use a stick, riders use an automatic.

Guys..thanks for the responses ..but are you going mainly by
how the car handles suspension and steering wise...
...cause horsepower wise...at 400 the
cars are basically equal...though the C6 coupe gears
are probably not near as aggresive feeling as the C5 ZO6

If you aspire to go not just fast, but faster than other people - get the C5Z. But, if you are thinking mainly of enjoying a drive on the road - the C5Z will wear on you. I think automatic Corvettes are a crime - but that's cuz I have no interest in driving mine other than on a racetrack. I think a manual C6 Z51 would be your best compromise. You can still blow the doors of lots of cars that think they're zippy, but you get a better interior and a decent road ride. Good luck!

I am one of the few track junkies using an automatic. You still have to do some shifting. My car is also a daily driver so a stick is not an option for me.
I do pretty well on the track

IF you are looking at a C-6...
Wait for a C-6 Z51 with manual tranny... it has the M12 which is the same gearing as in the C-5 Z06.
Both cars... stock, are nearly equal on the track, with the C-5 Z06 having a slight advantage.
The C-5 Z06 is.... Noisy... Mean... & Nasty,
whereas the C-6 is much more in the GT mode.
It really comes down to which car is best... for YOU !!!

The C5Z does not have the TPS, so no problems with changing wheels quickly, if needed.
Aggressive gearing is only for magazines and standing start launches. Tall first gear and low 2nd gear. Most road course you are only in 3rd and 4th gears, with an occasional drop to 2nd gear for a very tight corner. Almost never in 5th ( 5th gear is for over 150 mph)
I have driven lots of both models on the track.
and as trumper said
