Default Quine & Krolewicz to drive Mongoose cars @ Kit Car Shootout **now with 100% more pics

Hey all,
Just thought I would post this thread and try to keep it up to date on how Jon and I are doing at the event next week. This is the annual Kit Car Run & Gun shootout. Jon and I will be racing 2 Mongoose Corvette GTP's and the GrandSport coupe in 3 different classes at Gateway International Raceway.

There will be roadracing, autocrossing and drags. We will run one of the LS7 GTP's (Black and Gold) in Big block A (intermediate class) and the second one (Yellow) in street big block A. The blue GrandSport coupe will run in Intermediate B (Small block)

Jon and I will switch back and fourth in each of the cars and hopefully give the cobras and other cars a run for their money.

I will try and keep everyone posted each day with results and pictures from the events.

Here is the link to the event and their forum. Not sure if they will update daily or not. http://www.runngun.net/

www.mongoosems.com is the company website too if you care to browse around and look at the beautiful cars they build.

Aaron Quine
Kumho Tire (Motorsports)

Here is some pictures of 2 of the cars and the yellow one is being thrashed on right now to get done. I will post pictures soon on that one.

I'll start a new thread soon......I dont want to hi-jack this any longer ...It is an interesting story, and you guys will not beleive what can be built out of a rolled-over 86 Z51 Corvette for a grand total of $3000.......These engineers that I am involved with are "loones"... They have named the car the "cheaparral" if that gives any inclinations...

Back to your regularly scheduled program........

Aaron and Jon are going to kick peoples hiny's ................

Those GTP's look cool but NOTHING looks better than an old Grand Sport. Even if it is a kit the GS is the best looking race car ever IMO.
Aaron & Jon, I'm sure you will get the job done.
Go get'em

For those of you who may be planning on attending this event, here is the rough schedule as I can tell

Thursday: Autocrossing, time trials
Friday: Time Trials
Saturday: Drag racing

Cost: $10 for one day, $20 for the event.

There is a Friday night awards banquet thing as well, i think there is more information at www.runngun.net

Also, the event t-shirt has the #407 Grand Sport on it, along with a Lotus 7 copy, a Cobra Coupe, and a GT40 replica.

Looking forward to seeing anyone that can make it,

Jon K

Update:

It's Wednesday night, we are in the hotel rooms here in East St. Louis..

Aaron tested today (I was driving in from South Carolina) Both cars ran well, the GTP car is in much better shape than it has been, new transmission setup (still auto) Kumho r-compounds, new shocks, sway bars.

Tomorrow I will try to give updates - Aaron has the Kumho trailer here on his way to Laguna Seca for the ALMS race, and it has wireless so we might be doing updates from the track.

Tomorrow's events:

Autocross
Road course time trial sessions

Friday will be time trial finals, Saturday is drag racing.

Good luck Aaron, have fun. Call me when you get back in town.. I have to get the old man up to see the Grand Sport

… and the’re off and running, err.. we are off and running.. This morning started off with the sun down and the temperature low in East St. Louis at Gateway International Raceway. Today is day #1 of the 2007 “Run N’ Gun” kit-car competition.

The GTP in the back of the Kumho truck at 6:30 a.m.

The Run N’ Gun is a three-event competition, made up of an autocross, road course time trial and a drag race. Today is the autocross and the first day of time trials.

The Mongoose Motorsports Grand Sport in the early-morning Gateway paddock.

Competitors will get points for each finishing position one point for first, two points for second, etc. and at the end of the weekend after totaling the results, lowest score wins.

This weekend we are blessed enough to have Aaron and the Kumho truck, this is the view from the nice-and-toasty lounge looking out into the cold paddock.

First Up: The autocross:

The Subaru SCCA boys (and a couple of rotary-heads) came out to set up the autocross course for the event, and did a stellar job. The course was well layed out, easy to follow, and wide enough for the big-fendered and big-tired Cobras and other creations to negotiate without just having to “miss the cones.”

I was first car out and in the GTP, and Kumho V710s are great, but no matter how great they don’t like to work in the cold, our first few runs were spent with massive amounts of understeer. Oversteer, and hot rear tires are only a blip of the throttle away, so the cars were tricky to get a handle on.

Aaron, right, and I give each other pointers on each car as we swap for the second set of runs.

The good news – it didn’t stop us from taking the fastest times in our classes and of the run group. Aaron ran the GTP second and captured fastest time of the run, I came in 2nd overall (first in class) in the Grand Sport. Both of us had spins in the GTP, Aaron was smart enough to do it on his first run; I saved mine for last when I would have been able to put down a good time.

With some heat finally in the tires, the front end bites down on the asphalt.

A close-up of me in the GTP car.

Aaron manhandling the Grand Sport amongst the cones.

Blue, beautiful and brutal. The Grand Sport is a handful, but I have a lot of fun driving it.

Yee-haa… Aaron demonstrates the drifting ability of the Mongoose GTP while I finish up my first run in the Grand Sport in the background.

Remember when I told you that the rear tires had plenty of grip? Yea… here the Grand Sport lifts a front wheel under acceleration with Aaron behind the wheel.

Next up, afternoon Time Trials..

Jon K
