Default Can painted calipers burn off at the track.

Going to my first track event and was wondering if Painted or powder coated calipers would heat up enough to burn.I painted them with paint from autozone. They look so nice I dont want to ruin them. Thanks

Default Painted calipers

Painted - from practical experience. definitely yes.

Powdercoated (?) - have seen Brembo's turn color on a race car with agressive pads and driver.

It kind of depends how well it's painted and how hard you drive/brake.

To answer your question, it can mess up the paint.

wouldn't paint or powder coat also hold in some heat? I know the rotor is designed to dissipate heat, but a few degrees can be the diff between boiling fluid or not.

98% chance paint will burn, but it's worth it.

Yes. That is why the stock calipers have a thin, heat dissipating coating. Painting and powder coating reduce cooling and are just for bling.

EDIT: I believe the stock Corvette calipers use a heat resistant organic coating that can be easily removed.

I burned off the anodizing. They went from black to light copper color.

anything you paint them with will burn off. Even powder coating will crack. They will get so dirty anyway so it does not matter.

Yeap,
What he said.

I am one of those guys that wants both.
A show car and a race car.

I have painted my calipers a couple of times but have flat out given up on that.
Yeap, it looks great, but it don't make you go faster.

I have also found out you can't have both, at least in the same car.

Most high tech coating companies offer heat dissipating, high temperature coatings. But, they aren't very "pretty" so most people ignore them.

For example:

"The third type of coating is for heat dissipation. Swain Tech’s BBE™ (Black Body Emitter) heat dissipating coating uses high emissivity materials such as copper oxides, vanadium, and some ceramics that radiate heat from a surface. This coating can be applied to the exterior surfaces of brake rotors, intake manifolds, heads, intercoolers, engine blocks, and many other parts, this coating gets heat out of a part. The coating is an attractive satin black, functional and very durable."
