Default C6 Operating Oil Temp on track

Car runs 208-210F under cruising speed, 260-270F on the track. Is that normal? I am a little concerned because the temps are so high. I know synthetic are rated for almost 300F, but is that normal or is there something wrong with the car?

THanks

Nothing at all wrong with 270. That's actually pretty tame. Synthetics are good for well over 300. If you see sustained temps of 310+ or higher, back it off and upgrade your oil cooler. We routinely see oil temps in the 230-260 range with a really good cooler and radiator.

Good synthetic oil is good for much more than 300...the real concern is more for the rubber and/or plastic parts in the engine that will be affected by heat.

The good news is the LS2 has a warning for engine oil temperature which I think is 320 so if GM feels the need to set a warning at 320 then perhaps 270 isn't so bad.

As you drive more agessively or do longer sessions you will see higher temps, perhaps now would be a good time to consider a better cooling system for your oil.
